I said I would post the cost of bringing our car to the UK. We left Oz on the 12th July and we got the car on the road finally today.
It arrived in on the 6th August so took just over a month.
We have a Subaru Liberty 2005 estate which we got through as a personal import.
The SVA test was 150
Fog light supplied and fitted was 58
The speedo conversion was 250 plus vat
SVA admin (the examiners came to the place that worked on the speedo to carry out the test) 65 plus vat
Registration fee (one off) 38
Tax 6 months 96.25
Admin fee to the company that prepared the car 30 plus vat
All together the cost was 747.62 we did not think this was too bad and it was not that stressful it was worth our while as we stood to loose $8500 if we traded the car in as we could not find a private buyer.
We used a company based at Donnington park called Central Auto Logistics
www.centralautologistics.co.uk
our contact was Ian Papworth

Hi
Thanks for the info. We are planning on taking our Subaru Forrester back with us when we return home next year so your post was very relevant to us.
I have just a couple of questions.
1) why did you get the fog lights and conversion done in the UK - was it cheaper or easier to do it this way?
2) why did you ship your car seperatly and not with your furniture, was this the cheapest option?
3) If you live in York why did you use a Donnington Park company?
4) If we think of any more questions can I PM you?
Sorry for all the daft questions, just want to make sure we get this right.

OK here goes
We did the conversions in the UK as we did not think to get them done in Oz but to be honest how many places in Oz will change KPH to MPH and do fog lights when they are not requirements for Australia?
The car was not shipped seperatly we had a 40 ft but we had a quote for a 20ft for furniture only and the price quoted was the difference we were charged
Donnington Park was the nearest place to York that could do the work. The place we originally found in York could not do the work and asked us to take it to their supplier in Bristol!!! There seem to be plenty of places in the Midlands that do the work.
Yes feel free to PM me
Jo
Oh and the price is in pounds not dollars our total shipping for a 40ft container was $9600 with OSS
