I wouldn't live there for quids mate. In other words no amount of money could get me there. Shame really, I hear it's a beautiful country.

Prefer to live somewhere where crime is more under control and most people think the police aren't your enemy. Aprtheid and the brutality of the police in SA at that time have a lot to answer for!

We are ALL human beings and God bless my black bro or sis but I have to (like most of us) think of what's best for ourselves. I am white and would defintely have concerns living in a place like SA

I did not want my kids to grow up in that horriibly abberant society.

You don't realize how messed up it is, until you've lived in the first world.

Cape Town the murder capital of the world?? That's a bit debatable.

I am pretty sure JHb has more murders than Cape Town. The crime is not so bad as long as you have
6ft walls with electric fences.
Armed response security
Live in a walled off suburb
Carry a gun
Never let your kids walk anywhere
Act as if everyone who approaches you is a criminal
Dont wear jewelry
Keep your car dors locked and windows closed
Never leave handbags and cellphones in plain view.

All the above and more is the reason why I am buggering off to the 1st world.

Jo'burg's a bit bigger though isn't it? I was really talking about cities that are around the same size as Cape Town for an accurate comparison and simplicity.

2004 murders in similar-sized Colombian, South African and US cities:

1. Cali (Colombia) 2,402
2. Durban (South Africa) 1,931
3. Cape Town (South Africa) 1,757
4. Medellin (Colombia) 1,571
5. Los Angeles (USA) 518
6. Chicago (USA) 448

Per 100,000:

1. Cali (Colombia) 88.9
2. Durban (South Africa) 55.1
3. Cape Town (South Africa) 53.2
4. Medellin (Colombia) 45.5
5. Chicago (USA) 15.6
6. Los Angeles (USA) 13.5

Apart from a couple of years in the early 00's, Durban has consistently outmurdered Cape Town since the SAPS started keeping detailed statistics in 1994.

You cant always believe the police stats either as they manipulate them a fair bit.
This from sources within the SAP

There's no evidence the SAPS manipulate the murder statistics. A lot of this comes from the hysterical South African media who actually manipulate figures from the MRC and Interpol and state them as reliable, as I've pointed out in another thread.

This does apply however to a nation such as Honduras where the murder statistics blatantly fail to reflect the appalling level of violence in the country.

I left SA because of the crime. I lived in the Uk for 4 years (now in NZ) and became very laid back and relaxed. I had almost forgotten how bad SA was until my sister and niece came to visit. One day my niece was whisperering in her moms ear. My sister then told her to ask me??? The words that came out of her mouth broke my heart!! She is 13, and asked me if we could go for a walk to the shops (which were across the road), because she had never done that and wanted to know what it was like????
I have been trying to get my sister to leave SA, but she says she is too scared ........more of change then she is living in SA?
