Cool IT Codes added to MODL - Network Security

Hi everyone,

I was just going through the ACS guidelines and found something intresting.

Now we know that DIMIA has added certain IT ASCO Codes to the MODL list and one of the speciality is:

ASCO Code 2231-79 (Network Security)

If we read the recent ACS Guidlines carefully at https://www.acs.org.au/assessment/do...7_4_Oct_05.pdf we can see that the category NETWORK SECURITY is not listed under the ASCO Code 2231-79 but under the ASCO Code of 2231-11 which is actually called Systems Manager.

And perhaps it makes some sense too, because Managing the Security of Networks is primarily the responsibility of System Administrator / Network Engineers. Both these job roles are not listed under ASCO Code 2231-79 but under different cods such as 2231-11 and 1224-11

I wonder, how things will work with this particular category called Network Security ? Any ideas / comments ....

Ghanghro.

Ghanghro.
There is no specific category called Network Security. I think what DIMIA will expect is that people who are specialists in this field will be assessed by the ACS under 2231-79 IT Professionals not elsewhere classified.

This is what DIMIA says at http://www.immi.gov.au/migration/ski...ats_new.htm#d:

Important: If you nominate one of the above specialist computing occupations, you will only be awarded MODL points if your skills assessment from the relevant the Australian Computer Society (ACS) states you have met the criteria to be recognised in one of the above specialisations.

The ACS has advised that assessments provided to successful applicants will state the ASCO Code for Computer Professional nec with the specialisation in brackets -- for example, 2231-79 (SAP). In addition, the assessment will have the following statement: "Based on the provided certified documentation, it is my opinion that the applicant has 12 months experience in (name of specialisation, for example, SAP)".

If you have a skills assessment which only states the ASCO Code for "Computer Professional nec 2231-79", you are not eligible to be awarded MODL points. A new assessment will be required if you wish to claim points for having an occupation on the MODL.

Hi Ghangro,

That's just how it used to be when IT had MODL occupations before, so there's no change to procedure.

I agree with your other point about 2231-11 being more appropriate for network people, we just have to hope that ACS ensures that whenever it confirms MODL eligibility it includes the right ASCO code.

Cheers,

George Lombard

Hi George,

Do you think it is possible in some way for a Network Security
specialist to take advantage of the new MODL while on an SIR visa? I
mean, before the required two years are up.

Regards,

Vik

I dont really know Vik what happens in your situation. About this network security thingy I'm myself quite confused and have no idea yet how to proceed.

Hi George,

I'm just wondering on the SAP specialties mentioned in the MODL. I'm an
advanced user of SAP since 2000. I'm doing or printing BW reports in SAP
and supporting some modules in SAP. My only qualification is MCSE (NT).
Will this qualifies me for points in that new MODL. Do I need SAP
certifications to prove my knowledge and experience. I'm afraid by the
time I got the certification the IT skill will be gone again from the
MODL.

Thanks.
