update: cost of unloading container from Port of BNE
#1
Hi,
Since i joined the forum I didnt find much information regarding how much it actually cost from when the ship comes into the port all the way to our homes (thats for a Port to Port service...)
Well, here is the answer. I packed my container half myself (boxes) half by a movers company (wrapped furniture and loaded the container) and here is the bill from this great lady i used who managed the Port to Home journey....
Note: A 20'' container, 3/4 full, I fully supervised the actual "packing into the container bit" which must have made a difference cause not a single box or piece of furniture was damaged during the 2 month "cruise" on the ocean.
Customs clearance / Agency fee: AUD 300
Evergreens Local Port Service Charges: AUD 395.32 (Evergreen is the maritime company i used)
TPT and Unpack container: AUD 920 (stuff neatly arranged in warehouse for me to go and do the AQIS inspection with officer)
Quarantine Fees: AUD 349
Delivery from BNE to Gold Coast Storage Shed: AUD 600
TOTAL AUD 2,785.85
Now, i dont know how that rates compared to others, and the stuff will be delivered tomorrow from BNE to my storage place, by a movers organised by the lady who organised everything. I can only recommend her so far. I have never met her, havent paid a cent yet and everything was done really perfectly. Container came in last week and inspection took place today. AQIS inspection was planned to last 2h but when the inspector saw how organised i was (full description of whats in each box taped to 2 sides of each box in a plastic sleeve) he was really impressed. It took 15 min! he only checked camping gear (was really impressed by 2cm thick inventory list i gave him) cause he said it was compulsory to check and opened one tiny corner of one of my piece of timber furniture. He said he was really really really surprised about how organised i was. He also asked about how i knew what to bring / clean / not to bring... told him i had done my research.
So so far i am really impressed and very pleased. dont need to clean / burn anything. its all good.
fingers crossed that the movers dont break anything tomorrow.
oh, so since i dont have a place yet (just bought one today but will move in on 1 Jan) i have organised for a storage place for my furniture. I picked Safeway Storage in Ashmore (next to Southport on the GC) and for AUD 286 per month i get a whole 40m3 private garage with 24/7 access and security. I will leave my stuff there for as long as i need.
I extended my Letton and Percival insurance for storage (which is good cause it will cover all the way till its in my new place) for AUD 100 per month.
So thats the update, hope it helped a few.
again, if questions, dont hesitate

Ours cost GBP3700 for Pickfords to do everything - pack, load, ship, deliver to Brisbane address, unpack and remove packaging. Only extra cost was $370 for customs at this end (Aus)

Thanks for the information Fabie.
Can I ask how the total has compared with what you were quoted to ship everything door to door?

Cost for us was same as quote except the extra customs bit...but saying that the man from Pickfords underquoted and we clicked, but they got own back by holding up the container by a month in Darlington so we have sat on patio chairs for weeks and have fantasy's about washing machine.

Hey, well since i shipped it from Switzerland (land locked country) it must seem way more expensive than from the uk!
in total, i was quoted between AUD 12'000 to 18'000 door to door and it cost me about AUD 9'000! worth the effort i reckon...

Will post again if any other hidden costs pop up still expected next week, the container that is, so they still have time to decide to fumigate or something silly... :scared:
