Seriously I have had it with this place (Geraldton). Yes it is beautifull, the weather is fantastic, the beaches are stunning but what is the point in all of that if you ant live a normal life because of the criminals.

Yet again we have been robbed, 4 Aboriginal kids,3 girls and 1 boy only about 12-13 have come into the backpackers, broken into mine and Ants lounge and nicked, money, jewelery, ants watch, and other odds and sods, they also broke into a locked room in the shared kitchen which is 5ft round a corner from where we were sitting at the time having lunch and nicked a CD wallet full of 40 CD's and something else is missing but we cant figure out what was in the gap at the moment Ant caught the girls and they stayed and waitied for the police because they werent carrying any of it, the boy kept running as he had the stuff. The police know them but everytime they go to court they give the whole I've had a crap life story and dont get done for it. Fare enough they no doubt have had a crap life, If they know that then why dont they try and turn it arround rather than pop more children out at stupidly young ages to give them a carbon copy of their crap life.

Last night I was kept up by the wind obviously and some piss head out the front all on his own screaming how he wanted to kill people and throwing bins and glass bottles down the street (this is infact a regular ocurance probably every week to 2) A lot of them loonies (no I dont know if they really are mentally ill but they act like they are) get released from the local prison every week we get a prison van turn up in town and release those who are due for release, most of them dont come from Gero but they get dropped here because of the centrelink office and acccess to public housing therefore giving geraldton an inflated population of ex inmates etc
I have been called all the names under the sun for being white, I have had rocks, bottles and any other throwable object thrown at me whilst I am in the backpackers garden on at least 30 occasions, robbed 3 times in 9 months, I watch kids as young as 5 years old jumping on a moving train daily quite often at way past midnight, which scares the crap out of me as I really dont wanna see a kid die.

I spend night after night keeping an eye on our fence as they like to climb over and break into cars even though we put up 3 rows of barbed wire, I'm seriously considering razor wire and a gun.( to the gun bit)

People here have become so immune to the problems that nothing is done, The white people hate the black people and vice versa, For someone brought up in such a multicultural country as the UK to come to this is just heartbreaking.

Can't say anything that will help. As you know, I lived in two aboriginal communities, luckily it was never as bad as what you have to experience... though that is also 15 years ago...


What are your plans at the moment for getting out of the contract/moving?

You're having a really rough time. What options do you have? Are you so frustrated that you'll consider selling up and moving? I remember you getting the business and posting your news, and how excited you were. Would you start a similar business somewhere else or change direction? karma on its way for what its worth

There is so much division in this country, do most see it? doubt it. Very sad social situations, and yet all the gov and councils seem to care about is plough more money into the precious upper crust white beach suburbs and tourist spots.

Come pat a koala now youve seen OZ Everyone should take a trip off the tourist track and see the cr*p that really goes on, very different to the gleaming million dollar parks along the foreshores of popular areas. As a last ditch attempt at getting some peace, might I suggest you meet some of the Aboriginal Elders over a cup of tea and have an exchange of views? Preferably a non-alco one if any still exist. Might even get your stuff back though I dare say it is widely distrubuted by now.

Sorry if I have missed something before, but why did you go there in the first place?

We are moving to WA within 12 months and Geraldton was on Mr DL's list as a possible place to look at. It certainly won't be now ! At the moment we live in a country town with quite a few Aboriginal people but they don't cause the problems that you seem to have there. In fact most of the mature ones hate any sort of problems between " black and white " . Saying that , the Elders of the community are starting to realise that the younger generation of Aboriginals will have problems as the young are wanting to have the trappings of the " Western life " and not carry on or leave behind their traditions I think also that a lot of the problems are caused by boredom and lack of parental control which can happen in all societies. Kids don't seem to know how to amuse themselves these days without their playstations etc. other than getting into trouble. Drugs and booze can also play a big part in juvenile crime as we all know.
Can understand why you are "peed off ". I would be too. Would a big hairy guard dog help ? Let loose in your yard and kept a bit hungry !!

No. Razor wire, guns, dogs won't fix it and probably make things worse. Involvement might help but if not willing then acceptance or departure are the only alternatives.

Sorry for your troubles as I had similar when I lived in a beach suburb north of Sydney a few years back. It was the norm to them. At night the place took on a completely different feel - almost reminided us of Buffy the Vampire Slayer under cover of darkness. Even the cops said it was like Mad Max at night with all the hoons.
Try and get out of there if you can. I'm sending you a good karma repair kit. Oh by the way, when I expressed concern at this 'lifestyle' adn was told that that was life at the beach in Oz. This was an expensive suburb too.

l think moving to a different part of WA or perhaps one of the eastern states
is the only solution to your problem.
