Does anyone have any links or advice on how to go about dealing with tax and Ni and Australia's equivalent when living in Oz and still working for an English company?
I'll be moving out later this year with a PR visa and to start with I'll carry on doing work for my current employer. During this time I'll also try to start generating local (Oz) business and if all goes well and there's a big enough market set up an Australian company with the backing of my current employer. Would it be best to carry on paye in the uk to start with or setting up a company in Oz and invoicing my current employer in a proper business to business arrangement.
If I carry on PAYE in the uk what do I need to do to sort the tax out?
Also as I'm an expectant father (planning to have baby born in Oz) would i still qualify for paternity leave.
Any advice or where I can get hold of some free advice to decide on the action to take will be most welcome. I obviously don't want to be in a double tax situation.
Thx
Neil

Even if you do continue to get paid via the UK system, you will still need to declare your income to the Australian Tax Office, they will then calculate correct tax, offset the UK tax, and the sort out the difference.
I would suggest creating a trading name here, invoice the UK company, then as a self employed person, you can claim operating costs against income, maybe even the odd flight back to UK if needed. Also register for GST, and then claim GST expenses where you can, on telephone bills etc.
Unless you are experienced in this, you will need proper advice etc. to get this done correctly.
Lots of advantages when done this way

Hi Neil
I'll be doing the same and have done some investigation but will be waiting until I'm out there and talking to the tax office directly to make sure I get it right.
