Now a message from my sponsor (Mr GG has finally been let on the PC! Any mistakes are his own - bless!)

If you are have worked in the UK and left mid tax year you can generally claim back tax. This is because your tax is taken out of your monthly pay based on what you are expected to earn over the year, hence if you finish work in the UK midway through a tax year you will have probably paid too much and should be able to get some back. Basically you need to print out and fill in the P85 form (link below):
http://www.inlandrevenue.gov.uk/cnr/p85_p85s.htm
and then return it to you tax office along with a copy of your P45. If you don’t know your tax office postal address (and who does?) you can take the 'office number' off you P45 and use the following link to find the postal address (usually its nowhere near where you have been working).
http://www.inlandrevenue.gov.uk/loca...uals/index.htm
The form was easy enough to fill out in our case as we don't have any UK assets or incomes such as rental properties etc so it should be straight forwards. There are apparently lots of agencies who will do you "tax back" for you although I'd imagine they just take a cut of your cash. I can't see why you'd want to bother as they can't make the Inland Revenue work any faster and the form is hardly taxing . . . . . . . get it? . . . . . ..see what I did there?

I still have a chunk of money sitting in a UK bank, and every month I get interest on it, and every month they take about a quarter of it in tax, even though they know I'm no longer resident there. How do I get that back! Or is it ok for the WOOLwich to FLEECE me like that?
Get it?.... see what I did there?

Mr GG
Child tax credit (part of PAYE claim or separate?)
Council tax paid in 10 instalments so always ahead
Water rates paid in 8 instalments ditto
TV licence (we currently pay annually up front)
Road tax (if you scrap or sell your car to a dealer)
Gas/electric (if you pay on D/D your balance will be refundable)
If you use internet banking you may be able to review direct debits as a list of possibles.
Anyone think of anything else?

Lucky you
I waited several months after sending in our P85, then got a tax bill for 300 pounds, because they were still paying the child benefit (or whatever it is called now) into our account after we had left the UK. By sending in the P85, they knew where to find us. Bear that in mind, if you're hoping to get some money from them!

Whilst I'm updating threads, I thought I'd just let you know that Mr GG had a letter at the start of this week confirming that he'd be receiving a cheque for UK tax. That's a processing time of under 5 weeks.
I think his tax office in the UK was Bradford (maybe?); mine was Cardiff (I think?!) and there's still no word about my tax.
Hey ho.

My query is, most UK bank/saving accounts have a condition where you must be a UK citizen to have account, how have you got around this or have you told them?
Cheers
