Can any of you medical people help me with this question.
My Little girl, now 3.5 had recurrent urinary tract infections, from about the age of 1.5. After various tests, scans etc, she was diagnosed as having an extra kidney, joined on to the original kidney. This extra kidney and extra ureter did not work and was likely to be causing the infections. Last October she had surgery to remove the kidney and ureter although part of this extra ureter remains in her bladder. She continues on a prophylactic dose of antibiotic and will do so for several months. Consultant felt the operation was a success and was confident of no further problems. We have a letter stating this. Since then, no infections until today, she has blood and protein in her urine which indicates infecton. Not sure exactly what is causing this infection. My question is:
would this condition likely lead to our 136 pr visa being refused?
Sorry its a bit long winded, just trying to be as clear as possible.

Would try and take certified copy of letter from consultant to medical even if it ends up not getting used as you will have to put the problem down on form.
Will she drink cranberry juice (being 3 probably not) or good old Robinsons Barley Water both of which help keep down infection.
It is possible that she has an infection at the moment that is resistant to the antibiotic she is on for long term and just needs extra short term boost of different antibiotic.
Easiest thing to do would be to get msu sent away by GP to rule out infection that is resistant to present antibiotic. Could just be bit irritation that may go itself.
However, pre-medical paranoia is normal, did suffer from that myself....as CPN you should be well able to cope with that...

.Thanks for the reply.
I was planning taking the letter from the consultant to the medical and even enclose it if necessary.
I dipped her urine Monday morning and found trace of blood and protein and leucocytes +++, which has always been a good indicator of an infection. Took MSU to GPs straight away, receptionist said the nurse would dip it and guess what, found a trace of blood and protein and leucocytes +++!
Specimen has gone to the path lab to grow the bugs and find out what it is sensitive to. In the meantime GP prescribed 50mg TRIMETHOPRIM, until I advised him to read her notes where he would find that she has been taking 50mg Trimethoptim for months, so increased dose to 50mg bd. She has had Cephalexin and Cephradine in the past when infection has occurred, oral and I/V but had an allergic reaction to one of this type of antibiotic after her op. Previously had GENTOMYCIN as well.
Hopefully as you say, may just be a bug that is resistant to Trimethoprim (as in the past) and needs a short course of something else. She has been absolutely fine since her op, althoug I have always been concerned about the piece of ureter that was left protruding into her bladder. Doc didnt want to mess on with the bladder unless absolutely necessary.
Fingers crossed.

Can't see that your daughters surgery will cause a problem with your visa application. Take any supporting info you have from her consultant to the medical, although the Sydney docs may still ask for further info at a later date.
Sounds like she needs a short course of extra antib's, does she stay on trimethoprin all the time or do they alternate her prophylactic antib's every 3-4 months?

When she had a follow up in January, the consultant was happy with recovery etc. Told him about our plans for Oz and asked for a letter to give the doc at the medical and maybe include it in the application. Dont know what other info we can give if requested.
The prophylactic did change, each time she had an infection, but shes been on Trimethoprim since the op (October 04) and for a while before that too.
Fingers crossed it is just a one off. Despite her erine showing protein, blood and leucocytes, she seems allright in herself, touch wood.

The bit of ureter left protruding into her bladder shouldn't cause any problems should just sit there doing nothing. Only other thing that may be worth doing short term to try and reduce possible infection is to give her cool boiled water in anything instead of tap water as should reduce bacteria count in water.
Have also sent you Private Message Paul.

Good news, she doesnt have a UTI
Been really stressed out but feel happier now.
Starting to worry that our visa will get turned down though because of her past problems.
The bonus for us is thta she had UTIs every couple of months or so. Last 1 was about August, had the op in October, no UTI since then either, so basically no probs for 7 months now. Need to get the consultant to do another letter saying that she is 'fine and will not need any more treatment'!!!!
Hope that is the case anyway, and DIMIA need to know that. She has another follow up in July, might get it brought forward (if pos) and also discuss with the panel doctor in Newcastle, for advice.
Thanx for your support folks, kids are such a worry.
Havent put the house up for sale yet, had it valued and the estate agent rang to ask what our decision was. Said we were still thinking. She said there was a couple from Scotland looking for a house in our village. So they came around, loved the place, have said they want it and cancelled other viewings! Intresting to see if they put in an offer.
Off to Balamory tomorrow its actually Tobermory on the Isle of Mull. The kids both love the programme.
Happy Easter everyone.

Daughter has problems again, cloudy urine, possibly mucus or pus also.
No growth when sent to the path lab, GP doesnt know what the problem is, so GP writing to the consultant. We have also asked the consultant last week if daughter can have an earlier scan, so hopefully, soon, we can get to the bottom of this.
Dont really want to arrange medicals until we know a bit more. Its a lot of money to fork out if she fails the medical

Better to get scan so you know what's going on but make sure if he says all ok to get that letter saying so.

I understand you being worried abut the medical. I was worried about my sons. He has asthma and has been hospitalised on several occasions. Has ongoing treatment. Considering how particular they are I thought his medical would be failed. However, I think that really they are only worried about conditions that will place a heavy financial burden on their health service. I really don't think you will have a problem. Perhaps you and your wife could arrange for your medicals and discuss it with the doctor at the time. Then have the childrens at a later date. We didn't have ours done at the same time.
Good luck.
Tracey.

We have some leeters from docs, but just gonna wait for her o/p appointment and get consultant to do another letter, saying prognosis good etc.
Did DIMIA ask for more info?
Have you got your visa ?
