Default Age restriction for OZ skilled PR

Hi Everyone,

Asking this question on behalf of my wife's colleague...

She is a registered nurse, on 457 and working in a Sydney hospital.
wants to apply for PR and employer is willing. She has been working for over 6 months.

Her age seems to be a big problem as she is 49-years-old.

she is totally clueless about how to get the PR.

would someone guide about her chances and how to go about it?

Thanks.

Ranjit

As she's over 45, she's ineligible for points tested migration. This is non-negotiable.

However, she could still go for PR via the Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS). There is also an age limit of 45 for ENS but it can be waived.
http://www.immi.gov.au/migration/employers/index.htm

ENS for a 45+ person is not a do-it-yourself area. She needs a competent agent to help her. One way to find one is to get in touch with IARC and ask for a referral to someone competent - http://www.iarc.asn.au

Or if her employer has a regular agent who is familiar with ENS, this is an option.

Or ask on the Australia immigration forum.

Thanks Jeremy

would pass this valuable information to our friend and also post the same query on Australian Immigration forum for more detailed guidelines if possible.

Just wondering if she can apply through her current Sponsor or not. Would DIMIA object to the change of status so early (after 6 months or so)?

Regards

Ranjit

I am 33 and about to go to Australia on a 457 visa, is there an upper age limit that a person can apply for PR?

Depends on circumstances.

Employer nominated gets a lot harder (not impossible, depending on circumstances) once you turn 45.

Points tested migration gets harder in stages as you get older, with a complete bar once you turn 45.

Some other migration categories, such as spouse, do not have an upper age limit.

Are you familiar with all the risks and disadvantages of the 457 visa, especially if your job does not work out?
