Default Dress to the left

Is it me or do American (mens) jackets zip on the wrong side? I got rid of all my jackets in Feb when we moved (mostly because they where old) and we went shopping for a jacket today and I am sure the zip is on the other side than I am used to!

Anyone else found this or am I just being a Tony2003 sized Duffus!

Lets see.... BRB

I just checked tow jackets that I bought over here... one is on the left and one is on the right... let me check jackets in other coat closet.... BRBA

Aha! Both of those are on the right and one was Todds!

Might I suggest a penis reduction so you don't have to worry about it falling out of your jacket!

Nice to see you have your Tourette's under control Twatrick.
Did some research to help you out though, it seems straight jackets don't actually have zips on them, you should be fine mate.

I think that Patrick may be on to something here. I have a polo shirt that buttons the 'wrong' way, so either I have bought a women's shirt, or they do things differently over here. I suspect the latter as the shirt was definately purchased in the mens department.

I think that Patrick is talking about the side of the zipper that has the little "handle", as ziped garments by definition have the two edges abut each other. Yes, I think that some of those are the other way around, making starting off the zip, hooking the little end-peg in its slot, a little tricky.

I have bought all my shirts from the US for the past ten years, and they are all, every single one of them, the same way around as in the UK, buttons on the right side connecting with holes on the left. Buttoned jackets are the same too.

Steve, I think that you either have bought a women's shirt, and it may have been placed in the wrong part of the store where you picked it up, or you have bought a "second" that was made the wrong way round in error.

Too small for the missus, but it will mysteriously get damaged and have to be thrown away!

never mind the buttons, what do Americans say when their English tailor asks them,"Which side do you dress, Sir?" ??
and how many of you are now in the dark as to what I mean??

I think it is a common thing, I beleive every tailor (american or british) asks that question and I would think most men would know the answer!

It comes down to which hand you use, if you are right handed you normally dress to the left and if you are left handed you normally dress to the right. Try it sometime, try putting your little fellow away with the wrong hand and all of a sudden you dress on the other side, and it feels strange
