Don't know if these sites have been mentioned before:
http://www.salaryzone.com.au/salzone...search.jsp#top
- you can search by state and skill to find out what you might expect to earn. If most figures are honest entries, I would be quite relieved.
Some other interesting sites:
http://www.wages.com.au/html/surveys.html
- gives list of salary survey sites for many professions.
http://www.payscale.com/
- there is a free evaluation where you can find out how much you are worth (no sure how accurate it is!)
I put in my data (genuine) and was told I could be earning $100K! LOL!!! I know it's highly unlikely I'll get that in Brisbane, but my ego was boosted significantly. Now if only Mr JTL would figure what he could be earning, we just might take an early retirement...

After several tedious pages it asked me how much I earned. I thought it was going to tell me, not ask me! I got bored at that point.

Try selecting the "Checking salaries for a future job (Job Seeker)" option. It shouldn't ask you what you earn.
I entered "Consultant" as titile and was given choices to choose "Consultant, IT", then was given list of skills where C++ was listed.

Sorry..... did someone say something?
Well scuse me but in my role as a DBA today I
Ordered and installed security certificates for the web apps
Resolved several Peoplesoft issues
Replaced a motherboard
Finished a Disaster Recovery document (not recovering DBMS obviously)
Wrote some windows scripts
Ohh and explained to an app support guy that refreshing a 150Gb database would take a bit longer than 10 minutes so what did he think I was going to do about it at 17:20!
All good fun (yeah I mean it), much more variety than the UK roles I've had!

As a rule, salary quotes will include super. The 9% compulsory super is paid by the employee (NOT the employer) and taken out of the monthly salary. Everybody, including contractors, must pay the 9% compulsory super.

That was my assumption. Especially as JTL said $100k, which was plausible including super, but pushing it somewhat without, from my perusing of the job postings. Mind you I shouldn't make public assumptions about JTL's (or was it JTL's, if you follow me) experience or lack thereof!

No, that was Mrs JTLs experience, apparently she's worth $100k+ a year. She also filled in the form for me, apparently C++/Java people (me) are only worth $42K.
Fine
I know who's going to work when we get there
Is there a HouseHusbands forum anywhere?
What are the laws on afternoon drinking/gambling in QLD? Any suggestions how to fill up those long long long sunny days when the wifes out working?JTL

That is, frankly, a load of bo***cks. Speaking as a highly experienced C++/Java person, I would ROFL a great deal at $42k. I know that $100k is achievable although $80k-$90k is probably more realistic. That's in Vic/NSW I mean; can't speak for Qld.

Apparently, the wifeys quoted wage was so high because she is Siebel certified. I'm Siebel trained as well, but it aint my forte, and I'm not certified (i.e. my company wouldn't pay for me to take the exam), I can't believe companies would be so shallow to add 50% on to her wage just cos she took the exam.
Anyway, Siebel is childs play, real geeks use C++
I'm definitely cruisin for a bruisin from the wife, but she's asleep on the couch for now, the beating can wait till the morning
