We have the UTE/double cab pick-up version of the Nissan Pathfinder - the Navara - in the UK. And have just ordered one in Australia for when we go out there. It's the best value car I've ever owned - for space, reliability, economy (diesel)... And they hold their value pretty well. I just hope that Nissan after sales service in Oz is better than it is here - which won't be difficult!
I agree with what others have said about the roads in Australia. Once outside the cities you can be boogying along nicely and then suddenly it's a dirt track. I really think a lot of cars must get knackered pretty quickly. And then there are the roos - so bring on those bull bars :-)
On the basis of recommendations on this site, we've used a car broker (A1). Their communications have been superb and the auction begins tomorrow. It was the only way we could even begin to think about sorting out the car before we arrive. It's such a great idea, and you don't have to talk to slimy car sales people. Obviously you need to know exactly what you want, but given that we're just boringly going for the same as we've got, that was easy!

My wife quite liked the looks of it as well when we saw it at the Sydney camping show. We arranged a visit to our local Holden dealer here on the Northern Beaches... We spent about 15 minutes in the lot outside looking at a few and no-one came out to see us even though we were the only ones there... We went in and the 'salesman' came out of his office to inform us to 'feel free' to have a look at the cars outside and come back in if we have any questions... no attempt to show us around or anything... he went back in his office and we noticed a hole in his trousers where they had worn out (
). We asked for a brochure and were told that he had none (
) but that we could have a photocopy of one which was all he had...
At that point I figured if that's their pre-sales service I don't want to experience the after sales stuff...
Oh, I should also mention the build quality and reliability is not exactly world renowned... I'm driving a Commodore wagon most of the time and it's a heap...!

Thats terrible. The Holden chain we visited tripped over themselves tto serve us even though we kept saying we were just looking and were from the UK on holiday.
He gave us his card and said if we saw any cars elsewhere cheaper he'd try and get us a better deal.
Can't remember if it was Nissan or Ford but they were a bit crap when it came to answering questions and it seemed like they didn't want our custom?
Sorry you got treated like poo I guess thats why he has wholes in his trousers

The Honda people were really good, and even though it was a busy Saturday when we just nipped in for a quick look they couldn't do enough for us... And the new CRV thingy is really good I think...

Next time you see a thread that makes you want to have a silly rant please go in the other direction. It's nothing to do with ego - certainly not in our case and it's not about having a vehicle with everything on it including the kitchen sink. It's what is going to be really useful and the best family vehicle for us.
In the above car categories we are looking for 7 seater partly because my dad would visit for several months a year and we'd be able to go out and about without having to take 2 cars, and then if the kids have their friends round. and when we go out or away at weekends there is plenty of boot space.
A couple of years back we were looking at getting a people carrier before baby 3 was born but I tried driving a couple of friends people carriers and just really didn't get on with them, so I just opted for a slightly bigger car. We've driven a couple of 4x4's here one was the Pathfinder and I really liked it.
There was a riding stables we went to in Oz last year that we had to go down a dirt track to and I thought the poor old courtesy car was going to fall to bits.
Hubby will be opting for as you say just a car and as he already knows and has decided from our trip last year what car he is going to have.
Anyway PAthfinder has a few fans anyone got a Captiva??

Well I couldn't find any others that were even vaguely appropriate.
But what a wonderful argument gee you want a 4x4 you must have a massive ego.
I'm tired so could say something but i'll behave tonight especially as i've just found out there are NEW powers that be
