Here in WA, FESA run a recruitment program once a year. He'd need to apply then. You have to be a PR or citizen though.

He'd be in with a reasonably good chance as an experienced firefighter but I'm sure would still have to do the full gamut of tests like the beep test/confined spaces/heights and psych test as well as interview.

Really? Maybe it's just QLD that don't like interstate or overseas experience then. We found it was going to be nigh on impossible for the husband to get in. QLD Fire want young inexperienced bods who they can train their own way, no time for age and experience here. It would be great if that changed though so good luck to the OP.

To be honest I'm not sure. There are quite a lot of Career firefighters who are Poms and I guessed some of them must have been firies in the UK. Maybe they weren't.

It would be great if some of them had. To be honest, with one intake a year, there's only a slim chance of anyone getting in, let alone if you're older than 40. After 20 years in the job he'd had enough anyway without having to go the whole retrain route.

It's not well paid either.

No. Only fire Brigade who get a good deal are the Americans.

I know QFRS doesn't have a good reputation in this area. They do seem to want people they can train in their own ways from scratch. I found it odd when i first worked there, and thought maybe it was just a few people who were like that, but over the years I've realised its endemic to the Service.

one of my mates had 18 years under his belt, he left and tried to rejoin about 14 months latter, he was told he would have to retrain which he capitulated to and then they turned him down. he had a few good people rooting for him to, i can only imagine its his age (45) as he was a good firefighter...

edit: QFRS

Do you have a visa?

Many people, go over with savings but without a job because it is very hard to find one in advance.
