Mini Cultureshocks in Australia
#136
~Mini shocks when I was in the UK~
-All the houses are joined together and have such tiny kitchens at the back
-The variations in accents across England
-The countryside, in the UK it's all nice, green foggy fields and nice little woodlands the Australian landscape is so different
-The weather seemed...well....I don't know, damp? all the time, everything seemed wet (a cold Darwin?)
-Whiney Pom’s were non-existent, just nice friendly people definitely not like the people on Shameless (awww
)

From: Colchester, Essex but hope to head to Bulli / Thirroul area.....

Colourbond fences everywhere and tin instead of tiles on the roof!! Sounds brilliant when it rains but not so sure on the look of it....
Also how wide normal suburban streets are and that there are no pavements half the time.... How very young everything is - even the really old stuff

No matter how small the niggle you jump in to defend or say that it's not like that where you live. I know you've done the ping pong so you've walked the walk and fair play to you but you don't have to defend every post that contains something that people don't like!
It gets a little predictable

ABC, people are allowed to dislike things about Aus you know. Even those that love it here will have things they aren't keen on.

We'll never see the end of this Rhap.
Positive, factual posts will always work - especially when they are based on facts -ie. in sub/Troical/Tropical QLD, wood or tiles can be an issue.
The other side of the coin is that some people don't like the look of them - perhaps migrants who have never lived in sub tropical environments.

I think most people know that constructive negativity is OK Grayling. By answering in this light, you're just adding fuel to the fire - as always.
[BANGS HEADS TOGETHER]
Facts and reason, and constructive criticism are always welcome! Or was I asleep at school all those years?

Thankfully Some of us don't care what others think otherwise it would be very boring.
there is also a double standard when it come to negativity about the UK.

What I meant was....posters who put anything negative about Australia on this section of the site can experience a lot of hostility...to the point where many have stopped posting.

Quite frankly, if people can't cope with counter points then it only a loss to themselves if they leave.

I disagree (and I'm happy to agree to disagree). From what I see people post negative posts and positive posts. Positive posts are often seen as attacks on negative posts (which they are not). Conversely negative posts are often seen as attacks on positive posts. It's quite common for people to attack the poster rather than counter the post when their "argument" has been undermined. This happens both ways. It doesn't make people right. Compared to other forums I'd say it's relatively balanced in this forum.
