After waiting months to get my ARTC then to be told, OH first we need a letter from Energy Safety before you can start college,Then finallly getting the letter back from Energy Safety to be told i'm on the waiting list ..about oct before i can start the 10week course.
I heard today at work that some sparkies are flying to Adelaide to do a weeks crash course then taking their theory and practical exams, getting their license then getting it transfered to WA when they get back.
Is this true? Is this the best way of getting around having to wait?

SA require you to sit the Wiring Rules course which you can do through correspondence (56 Hour study booklet to fill in, takes approx 2-3 weeks to complete) then fly to Adelaide to sit the exam which takes approx a day.
Once you have done your exam and passed, (impossible to fail, as they will tell you to amend things if they aren’t right), you will get a certificate to say you have completed the wiring rules course. You then take this and your ARTC certificate to the Office of Consumer and Business Affairs (OCBA) in Adelaide CBD. You will need to also fill in this form: http://www.ocba.sa.gov.au/assets/fil...ship_07web.pdf and pay the fee ($338 currently, keep the receipt as you can claim it back )
Takes 3-4 weeks to get your SA licence through the post, once received you can apply for mutual recognition to gain your WA 'A' Grade licence (You have to pay again for a five year licence) and this will take another 2-4 weeks to come through.
Don"t know if you can do the course in block week, think they run it 2-days a week for 3-weeks. Best call Peer Tec for the details.
There are quite a few threads on here about the Adelaide route, good luck.

Hi
I've just returned from the Peer Course. I completed the course via correspondence and went to Adelaide for a days 'revision' and then the exam. 30 questions on much of the same stuff you had to do in the book they gave you for correspondence.
One of the questions that you have to get 100 % for is a diagram showing how to wire a consumers fuse board. Take coloured pens and complete as per FIG 5.1 in the regs. (Pay particular attention to the connections on the earth / neutral bars. These need to be exactly as per the diagram).
Impossible to fail the exam as you will be shown what you have got wrong. He won't tell you the answers but ask you to look at them again.
Got the certificate and along with my ARTC cert, passport, driving livence and credit card, took it to the licencing place, paid the $350 dollars, had my photo took there and the licence will be sent in 2 - 4 weeks.
Ask if you can be informed when the licence has been granted and you can apply for mutual recognition before the licence itself arrives.
Also
I stayed at the links hotel which was cheap ($55) but was like a room from Rising Damp.
5 mins from airport, 5 mins from Peer and 15 mins from licensing place.
Good Luck to all!

take it from me go to SA and do the Peer course. I recently did this as iam living in Melbourne and here they require like 12 months practical exp before you get A graded. first ring Peer and get them to send the corrospondance wiring rules course out ( costs all up about $800 with all the books). work through the modules at your own pace (couple weeks max)and then ring Peer to arange an appointment for the exam. Fly over and do the exam ( they are extremely helpful and friendly) and once they give you your wiring rules Cert.(the same day) head on downtown Adelaide to apply for your SA electrical licence! its that easy. And just get it mutually recognized in the state that you live.
