Never worked at BT Martlesham... Trucking was my game in them there days... And a bit of computers I suppose... Did MCSE 'cos I got fed up with idiots that knew nothing asking megabucks to sort my Network out, then sort of fell into running a small PC bit on the side with 4 employees... Still got people I know that worked there and on good money... One was contracting on £550 a day for a few years until he decided to setup on his own... And that was at least say 12 years back...

I had a weird kind of childhood, spending all term time just outside London, and all holidays and most weekends in suffolk!

My dad still lives in a small village just outside Snape (and about 6 miles from Woodbridge) although he is now selling up and moving out here to NZ in November.

We spent our last week in the UK before coming here in 2005 in Blaxhall, his village, and it really is lovely. As a teenager i regarded it as the arse-end of nowhere... but now it's just a lovely quiet place to be. I couldn't live there again, it would be too much, but it is lovely. When i was a kid we used to sail a lot from Orford.

All our travel stuff and suncream came from Boots in Woodbridge!

All these areas are a bit dodgy and with their fair share of problems, hence cheap housing. Ipswich is expanding very quickly and is getting quite trendy down by the docks. There are of course undesirable areas in Ipswich too, but plenty to do, excellent shopping, great restaurants and entertainment and good travel links. Some large housing estates on outskirts not too bad.

Small coastal towns nice (Aldeburgh, Southwold - lovely, Thorpeness), Bury St Edmunds, Sudbury nice market town, Hadleigh also very nice. Also check out Bures, Long Melford, etc. Really depends on how much you want to spend.

Avoid large industrial coastal towns like Felixstowe and anything too close to Sizewell B.
