Just a quick question, does anyone know whether a Television brought in England will work in Australia?

Have you done a search for 'TV'? There are a few threads on this topic.

General consensus seems to be that some will, some won't, and some will only receive certain channels. They apparently all work if the signal is routed through a sky/cable box, or a video player that is compatible. Or you could use a spare one for games or DVDs.

Probably not. Look for PAL-B in the TV specifications. UK is PAL-I

Unless it's a ultra modern multi-region, you may need to watch the Australian terrestial TV channels throught a locally purchased DVD or video player

Basically, you need a set top box, unless you can change regions.

Sound is not the only issue, if it supports PAL-I (Mine does), great. What it wont do is pick up any digital stations, there are only 6 free to view anyway, but it will only get SBS. For the rest, you will need a set top box. My advice is if it is an expensive TV, bring it. A set top box is as little as $45.00, and then once you get Foxtel (Cable TV), you wont even bother with that.

Even better, if you can, look into a Sling box. Just google Sling. If you can find a sympathetic relative or friend in the UK, get them to get sky multiroom, and connect their spare sky box to sling. Bring your pc over, connect it to the tv, and watch UK Sky as if you were at home. Ours is being setup now

Good idea but you really wont be able to blow it up and watch it on a widescreen tv, but only on your PC. The bit-rate is too low... In addition it chews bandwidth on both ends - dont attempt to use the internet on the upllink end or you'll get breakup, and on the downlink you better have an unlimited tariff or this will cost you the earth in broadband fees - rare in australia i feel.

Yeah, I know. We have full on cable here, unlimited. The uplink side wont be using the web at the time we are viewing, so all is good.
