Default Taking the cat to Canada?

Hi all

I am sure that this has been done to death on the forum. What is the best way to transport moggie to Calgary? Can anyone recommend a company? What documentation do I need? What happens to moggie if we should come back?

Hi

Make an appointment with your vet.
He has all the documents with the regulations: for Canada you need to chip your cat & she needs all the necessary vaccinations.
I do hope that you ll take moggie with you if you should go back to England...Your vet can tell you what you have to do...
It s not difficult at all, as long as you take the time to find out...

Succes !

PS: googling on the theme doesn t hurt either...hihi

Just had our spaniel at the vets as we are off in October All you need for a dog is a health certificate and health check from your vet within 48 hrs if traveling Very easy, we are flying with Thomas cook airlines and the dog too, Fligths through Canadian affair, all though you have to use an agent to book our dog/cat on the same flight, which again is very easy, we used petsaway, its all down to weight with booking the dog/cat on aflight and size of travel box. We have 4 flights booked and the dog to Vancouver for £1300!!!

That is brilliant price... we are takingour two dogs.. a Labrador and a Newfoundland and I keep threatening them with severe diets if it is going to be expensive... do you have any further information on the Petsaway service?

I'd put them on a SERIOUS diet if i were you Benji our spaniel is a year old and weighs 7 kilos with his container 15 kilos, his price was £500http://www.petsawayuk.co.uk/ is the first point of contact i dealt with Dave who owns the company, extremely helpful he can tell you exactly what you will need from the vets too (knows it off by heart)the process was pretty straight forward go on line and choose the flight you want(dont book at this point) then phone petsaway and tell them the flight details they will then call you back with prices for your pets and avilability on the given flights.if this meets with your approval you simply book the flights and then call petsaway back. i think they hold the storage space when you first call untill you call back, all though i could be wrong.Very very easy

Brilliant thanks... the Newfoundland currently weighs in at around 10stone... and she is not fully grown yet! The labrador only looks light beside her, but I suspect is not. That is it, rice cakes for them from now on!!

I rang Dave gilliard at petsaway for the a labrador (large) manchester to calgary & he told me it is not the actual weight of the dog, it goes on the volume of the crate used, ie. they don't actually weigh the dog & crate. The price was £1149. But give them a ring he was very helpful & worked out the best & cheapest way to do it.

We used jetset pets to bring our cat over www.jetsetpets.co.uk

They were very good.

If you are thinking there might be a chance that you will go back to the UK, you should really look into getting pet passports, including the follow-up blood tests to check that the Rabies vaccine has worked - it is an added expense at the time, but is nothing compared to the expense of putting them into quarantine when you go back.

The blood test is the important bit - having the Rabies vaccine alone is not enough for entry back into the UK. I know of people who had the vaccine done before they moved out here, but not the blood tests, they then decided to go back to the UK.

They had the blood tests done here, but there needs to be six clear months from when the results come back - so they were here for the first couple of months, then flew back and the dog had to go into quarantine for the next four months until the full six months were up.

Just something to bear in mind!

Thanks everyone for you help and advice. I have a couple of companies to try now. Not expecting to have to come back but just didn't want poor mog to be in quarantine for 6 months.
