All I know about Brandon is that it's the centre of the Pregnant Mare's Urine industry and it has some wheat farms. I think it also has some poultry processing and was the site of a long running industrial dispute against Tyson; the unhealthy chicken corporation. It's bloody cold in Brandon. I suggest that Mexicans in Manitoba are not likely to be leading happy lives, they are likely to be doing dirty dangerous jobs for less than a living wage. I would think things would have to be desperate in Mexico before Brandon is an attractive option.

Since this is a British Expats' forum, you're likely to find more British people than Mexican people here.

Still, the members of this forum can answer some questions about Canada.

Also, many of your questions would be answered if you read the Canada section of the BE Wiki.

I specially recommend the article entitled Newcomers to the forum.

Calgary, where I live, has a handful of Spanish bilingual schools. I've heard from an Argentinian man, whose daughter attends one of those schools, that the majority of the Spanish-speaking families involved with those schools are Mexican.

If you felt that there was some information that only a Mexican person could give you, perhaps you could contact one of those schools and ask if someone there could answer your questions about Canada.

But obviously Calgary schools are a long, long way from Brandon. They're also in a different province, so a lot of the information that people know about provincial matters in Alberta (health care, drivers' licences, and on and on) are different in Manitoba.

Mexicans living in other parts of Canada would be able to give you some general information, e.g., what it's like to live in a cold climate, and stuff like that.

Actually, even I could tell you what it's like to live in a cold climate, because I grew up in a hot, humid climate. In one way Canada's winter is easier to take than you might think it is. Interiors of buildings are warm, vehicles are built for the climate, and so on. What is more difficult to take, and I found that it took several years for my dissatisfaction to creep up on me, is that winter days are much shorter, winter lasts a long time, and going outside (even for a short errand) is a big production, because you have to dress up in boots, a parka, and gloves every time. This leads to a disgruntled condition nicknamed "cabin fever."

If you can bring yourself to get involved in outdoor winter sports, you'll go a long way towards overcoming the winter blues.

Are there Internet forums where the discussions take place in Spanish? I'm sure they exist, but I've never had occasion to look for them. That is another place where you may find information (if you haven't already tried that route).

But I still think you probably would find a fair amount of relevant information if you read the Wiki articles that I've mentioned.

Once you've read those articles, you should be able to come back here with more specific and focused questions.

brandon is actually a very nice small city, fgriendly, about a 4 hour drive from Winterpeg.

it has Manitoba winters, but if you don't like cold, you are really going to the wrong place.

Doubt if you will find any Mexicans there, almost 100% European origin and Aboriginals.

Nice small University with some powerful teams.

I have been there many times.

Yes Brandon is 2 hours from Winnipeg driving legally there is a lot of Mexicans in Brandon and has a lot of multicutral activities Army is there as well.

I know some very nice people from Brandon and I am sure once you get there you will find that its like a lot of prairie cities -- full of friendly helpful people - which is the important thing!!
