Someone has said to me that in Australia the double sized bed doesn't really exist anymore. All the beds are now Queen or King sized.
Is this true? While we are not planning on taking our bed we were going to take our bed linen and duvets (or should I say doonars )etc.

Oz Queen is equivalent of Uk king
Oz double is same as UK double
You can still get double beds in Oz - they certainly sell them in places like Forty Winks, so presumably you can get double doonas/ covers too

Assuming that HPs sizing is correct (I know that some people have said that the beds are a different size
) yes, you can still get double beds here in Oz, as HP said most places like forty winks & superamart sell them. I think that the difference is that most people in Oz have a queen sized bed, doubles arent as common.
We have a king sized, absolutely love it
Sometimes I have to wonder why though, as we seem to spend most of our time in it together in the middle 3 feet

Bed sizes from forty winks website:
BED SIZES
Single Bed - 92cm x 188cm (3'0" x 6'2")
Single Extra Long - 92cm x 203cm (3'0" x 6'8")
King Single - 107cm x 203cm (3'6" x 6'8")
Double Size - 138cm x 188cm (4'6" x 6'2")
Queen Size - 153cm x 203cm (5'0" x 6'8")
King Size - 183cm x 203cm (6'0" x 6'8")
Had to learn the bed sizes after much confusion. Sister (who's been in Oz for years) wanted to get me new bedlinen for our spare bed - I told her it was kingsize....except it's UK kingsize, which is Oz Queen...to cut a long story short, we ended up with all the wrong sized bedding due to the UK/OZ difference.
(oops, sorry, didnt mean to bore you with that family story!)

. HP, I dont ever have a problem of sleeping the other side in protest & him being a pig - except for sweating like one that is! When its 28 degrees at night like it was a couple of weeks ago, there is nothing better than being able to sleep far enough away from each other that you dont have to touch when you are spread out
. I just love our bed, I would choose a house based on whether we could get the bed into the main bedroom. If it wouldnt fit, rather than buy another bed, I would find another house to buy

Since buying our king size bed over here, i have vowed never to buy a smaller one again. Its wonderful!!
Biggest joy is having plenty of room to spread out (i resemble a star fish when sleeping!!) and it is also really nice to have space when its really hot so that you are not touchng each other

EEL, thats exactly the reason that we used to justify getting ours - there just wasnt enough room in our old bed for us plus the 2 kids in the morning

We have a super king size bed that doesn't fit in our current house - since we came back to Uk we've had to put it in storage. It's awful trying to sleep in a 'normal' sized bed!! (especially with an 8+ months bump....where is the big bed when I need it!!) Whilst house hunting the first thing we look at on the property details are the dimensions of the main bedroom. We need a house to fit the bed and not the other way round!!
