You can earn a maximum of four credits a year and you are correct that you need 40 credits for retirement benefits so just under USA rules I do not qualify for any retirement benefits. However, I applied for U.S. benefits and benefits under a U.S. International Social Security (Totalization) agreement which apparently takes into consideration social security payments made with certain other countries. This gave me enough credits or whatever to get my U.S. pension.
