Cost of living
#16
in rural NS we live very nicely thankyou on $1000 a month for 2 we have no mortgage or debt
our annual tax including rubbish collection is $627 we have no water rates or fuel bills we have our own wood for fuel
fresh fruit vedge meat milk eggs etc are all bought from our firends in our community for cents
we buy local and we eat local and socialise local at eachothers homes and community events suppers etc
we both drink and smoke
and our 2 doggys are spoilt to bits we have a beautifully furnished warm comfortable large home and we want for nowt
but we are the wrong side of 45 so not into buying trash or status symbols we dont have to prove ourselsves with posessions

i think a lot depends on age and expectations
we had a luxury material life in the UK but it all seems a bit meaningless and shallow now that we have experinced something else entirely
this was our whole purpose in coming to canada for a complete change of lifestyle andwe are so lucky to have found it
good luck

No absolutely not in Vancouver. I was looking through my COL and it's practically $5k/month and that's with a very low mortgage, and missing out on essential add-ons some of which would be taken for granted in UK, particularly medical. Looking at where I can trim this down and the best I can do is bring it down $200-300.
We find life far far harsher here. People only seem friendly when they're looking for something from you or you can help them. Turn it around and you won't see them for dust. I only really experienced this in London and only with one or two individuals. The only people I have NOT experienced that here with is Expats. This says a lot.
