Default Immigrant Visa Question

Hello,

My dad entered the US in November 23, 2007. He's got an Immigrant Visa. Will he be receiving his Green Card soon? What do we have to do now? Could someone please help me? How long does it take to receive a Green Card after someone enters the USA with an Immigrant Visa? We applied for him, as far as I understand for his status, meaning getting a Green Card, thus adjusting his status here...maybe there are other steps that I have to take in order to get a GC for him.

It's been a while, so we were wondering if we have to do something to get his GC...any help is appreciated.

Thanks in advance and I hope to hear from someone.

He has no stamp on his passaport. He is from Kosovo and thus has a UNMIK (United Nations Mission in Kosovo) Travel Documents which is not recognized by many states, including the USA. His VISA is attached on a piece of paper and it's an Immigrant Visa. There is a stamp which he got when he came to NY, and it's stamped on his VISA. It says "Admitted, 23 November 2007, IR5 (IR5 is handwritten) and the registration number is written by hand as well. At the bottom of the VISA says "Upon endorsement as temporary I-551 evidencing permanent residence for 1 year"

Hi:

He already is a "lawful permanent resident." The endorsement you note is his "green card" for now -- he should get the actual card in the mail shortly -- within 6 months of entry. Probably much sooner.

Think of it this way -- when one gets a driver's license, one walks out of the Department of Motor Vehicles with a slip of paper which is temporary EVIDENCE of the license to drive -- the actual hard card comes later.

There is no magic inherent in the actual card -- if a pickpocket steals a wallet with the green card in it -- the wallet's owner is still a permanent resident.

Leo,
Green Cards for new immigrants (IV entry) are produced at the Texas Service Center, according to what I was told.
Normally, the Green Card is produced and mailed from that location within 4 weeks.

I've read elsewhere that there is a group of others complaining about a delay in receiving their card, so you are not the only one. There may be some problem at Texas Service Center that is to do with them, not your father's case.
Posted stories indicate that the average time to receive a new Green Card from TSC is about 7 weeks. You can notify USCIS now, or wait a little longer.

As pointed out already, your dad is still a PR, has the evidence of that (his endorsed visa) and shouldn't be held back by not having the card just yet.

I just wanted to thank you all for your help. I did some research after I received your responses and seems like everything is fine, we just have to wait for the card

Thanks again!
