Is it not possible for you to visit your husband and get Alberta coverage?
Isn't provincial healthcare recipriocal? You could use your Alberta card here in Ontario, or at least submit Ontario receipts to Alberta for a refund?

But wouldn't she actually need to be a resident of Alberta and residing in Alberta to keep it?

So the husband is resident in Alberta and has AHIP coverage. The wife is resident in Ontario and is trying to get OHIP coverage. It looks like the wife doesn't qualify for OHIP coverage for reasons other than residency. That is, she does not have "an OHIP-eligible citizenship or immigration status".
http://www.health.gov.on.ca/en/publi...hipfaq_mn.aspx
"Your ongoing eligibility for Ontario health insurance coverage is based solely on you having an OHIP-eligible citizenship or immigration statuses, and on you:
- making your primary place of residence in Ontario, and
- meeting the requirement of being physically present in Ontario for at least 153 days in any 12-month period."
She's clearly meeting the residency requirement. She's NOT meeting the citizenship or immigration status requirement because she is not the spouse of an OHIP-eligible foreign worker.

Sounds like the OP needs to move to Alberta.

Yep. I'm curious to know why the OP is living in Ontario anyway if the husband is living in Alberta. Is the husband in Alberta temporarily and intending to return to Ontario at some point? Otherwise, why pay for lodging/utilities twice and go without health coverage (especially for the kids) in Ontario?
