Sadly this is so and has been for a long time.

I was glad that all my visits before I settled her started in London.

I'm not sure how it is justified. I think a large part of the extra is tax related?

Second highest taxes behind the UK where flight prices are much lower.

I've just this week returned from a trip to the US and back: my ticket breakdown of government charges (per person) was:

Passenger Movement Charge - Australia GBP37.00
Passenger Service Charge (International) - Australia GBP17.40
Passenger Security Service Charge - Singapore GBP4.10
Aviation Tax - Singapore GBP3.10
Passenger Service Charge - Singapore GBP7.10
Air Passenger Duty - United Kingdom GBP65.00
Passenger Service Charge - United Kingdom GBP34.49
Animal & Plant Health User Fee (Aphis) - USA GBP3.20
Immigration User Fee - USA GBP4.50
Customs User Fee - USA GBP3.50
Air Passenger Duty - United Kingdom GBP92.00
Passenger Service Charge - United Kingdom GBP34.49
Passenger Security Service Charge - Singapore GBP4.10
Aviation Tax - Singapore GBP3.10
Passenger Service Charge - Singapore GBP7.10
Passenger Service Charge (International) - Australia GBP17.40
Total government, authority and airport charges* GBP337.58

You can see why the Singapore Changi airport is so third world when they charge so little compared with the UK.

(Yes, I *am* being sarcastic.)

Qantas, Virgin and the odd Skywest flights operate out of Port Hedland, Normal prices approx Port Hedland -Perth $274 one way...My flight next sunday $829 one way...fridays cheapest was $2000+. Both Virgin & Qantas the same prices.... I think there is something a bit dodgy going on with the price fixing...but they say it is due to demand and the time of year..... Lying Bastards

Checked BA for Manchester to Rome which is similar distance I think - prices next Sunday from £217 (approx $330 I think) so Aus prices do seem pretty steep

these airlines want a bit of the relatively strong aussie dollar / economy. and they know aussies will still buy tickets because of supply/demand dynamics.
