I'm getting a food parcel from my auntie, but there are some specialist shops that sell British products. There is one in Hamilton called best of British and according to my tutor there is also one at Cambridge. Best of British deliver nationwide for a small fee.

Great thread! I imported a new phone last year from Clove.co.uk who were brilliant to deal with and I would definately buy from them again. Total cost was about $800 and I had to pay some duty charge which I did by credit card over the phone.
The duty for imported goods is now payable where duty to be collected is more than +$60 and depends on the GST due + any Duty + freight costs are included in the calculation. Not straightforward to understand.
There is a review to the Minister of Customs and a suggestion that a Dollar Value ($400) should be used instead to make it easier to understand.
From Customs website:
Customs charges — imported goods
Imported goods, such as those purchased on eBay and other international websites, may be subject to the payment of duty and/or GST.
Regardless of whether the imported goods incurred taxes in the country of purchase or not, it does not exempt the importer from the payment of New Zealand duty and/or GST.
In addition, an import transaction fee of $25.30 may apply. This fee is payable at the time that your goods are cleared. A biosecurity risk screening levy of $12.77 is also collected by Customs on behalf of MAF Biosecurity New Zealand.

For tall ladies -- Long Tall Sally deliver out here and charge 15 quid an order.
with regards the customs, if i get my supplier to mark it as a gift - like I do when I order stuff from Ebay and Amazon and get it sent to my friends in the UK, won't it be ok?
When in the UK i ordered stuff for myself, from Hong Kong, through ebay , and they always put 'gift' on the customs document, even though I never asked them to.
I also found that amazon delivers to NZ in record time - I have ordered books for myself and sent things to my daughter in the UK at the same time and my order got here before hers reached her!

I had such a laugh when in Pak N Save and my son took me to the 'international food' section where they had atora suet, jaffa cakes, walkers crisps, jelly. etc ! I still thought of it as 'home' food, and it was funny to see it there with the fajitas!

Gifts:
Unsolicited gifts sent from persons abroad to persons resident in New Zealand are not automatically free of Customs duties, but may be granted a full or part concession, depending on the value of the item.
Gifts with a declared value of $NZ110 or less are allowed free entry.
Gifts with a declared value that is higher than $NZ110 attract Customs charges on the value in excess of $NZ110. Gift parcels (where the contents are intended for more than one person) with a total declared value in excess of $NZ110 will be allowed multiple gift allowances, provided the separate identity of each recipient can be established.

If sending items as a gift to yourself, make sure you name your OH, the kids, cat, dog and the goldfish = multiple allowances!! (although I have a sneaking suspicion that customs might frown on this practice )

This is all brilliant news ~ my shopping habits won't have to change, a bit of retail therapy is sometimes the only thing that hits the spot!!

For any bikers, wiggle.co.uk do free delivery for most orders over 50 pounds. Very good value too - about 50-60% NZ prices for most items
