Is "de facto" still used in ordinary conversation to describe a partner you live with but aren't married to? Or was it ever? I forget.

how about "Speedos"?
at Friday drinks once I mentioned that MrsL bought me a present when we got engaged - I bought her the ring and she got me (the sad anorak that I am) a pair of "speakers" - my boss thought I said speedos and there was much merriment......
