Default Meanwhile in politics

Labour decide that they just wanted to make things a bit harder for themselves by giving away select committee seats to the opposition.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern says today's facepalm moment in the House shows how National will play the game.
Come on Jazzy, it wouldn't be a propper labour government without the unnecessary yet regular face-plants would it?

Probably the most interesting and meaningful changes to date: https://www.interest.co.nz/property/90780/speech-throne-pledges-aucklands-urban-limit-will-be-removed-and-density-controls-will

- Boundary changes in Auckland to free up land for development.
- Tax losses on investment property can no longer be offset against other income.
- Bright-Line test to be 5 years from 2 years previously.

2 and 3 above sound fine. No.1 only ok if we have the infrastructure changes to reflect the increased popn in said areas, and routes from them.

I think they've realised that a substantial proportion of the land available has been purchased by investors without the aim of developing it. The aim here might be as much to free up that land in the existing zone as to make new land available for development.

If you listen to Tony Alexander he reckons unlikely to see mass building as the peak demand and FOMO has now all but ended; he says there aren't enough people available to build more houses and banks are not willing to lend monies to any old would be property speculator.
