Re: Starting a cleaning business in Calgary

There's LOTS of demand for good cleaners here for both residential and commercial. Lots of bad ones around but seems like there's few good quality and good value cleaners around. Seems to be high...

UK Nova R.I.P.

Despite their policy of never showing anything commercially available they have now been shut down for good by the nice people at FACT. The search for an alternative begins.

Re: Top 3 of Calgary

There are dozens of really nice areas so kind of difficult to pin it down to 3. All depends on price and your needs in terms of location?

Re: Best areas - Calgary

We love living on the west side of town in Coach Hill. Great community, lots of amenities and essentials, quick commute to downtown, quick access to the mountains and we're just about to get the LRT...

Re: Finally made it to Citizenship!

Ha. We had a similar incident. My little boy was wearing a Flames jersey. He is obsessed with trucks right now but pronounces the word truck, 'cock'. He started to shout 'big cock' multiple times...

Finally made it to Citizenship!

Well, five and a half years since landing here on our adventure I'm now a Canadian. Did the test/ceremony in Calgary last Friday (one year start to finish). I'm now no longer the only non-Canadian in...

Re: CIC Citizenship timelines

Update on Calgary timeline. I mailed my application off this January. Finally got my test/ceremony date later to attend at the end off January 2012. I consider completing within 12 months a result!

Re: Calgary

Arrived just over 5 years ago.

Wife had lived here as a kid on and off in between living in the UK so we had some knowledge of the place.

Re: Best place to live initially in Calgary?

Bankview is fine. It's Calgary's mini San Francisco (lots of hills). It's a mix of affordable older 70's apartment blocks and expensive multi-million dollar in-fills. It's near 17th Ave for...

Re: Best place to live initially in Calgary?

Why are you opposed to downtown as an option out of interest? It's pretty much the perfect place to start exploring the city from.

That budget of $700-800 is going to need re-thinking (maybe even...

Re: Calgary Tower - Eat or not to Eat?

Food is better than it used to be, not that it's ever been bad. Feels pretty swanky up there since they revamped it a bit. Always a safe bet but definitely pricey. Best time to go is early evening so...

Re: FOOTY CH,S- SETANTA SPORTS+ FOX SPORTS ?

I think it's only 14 bucks for Setanta on Shaw. Works fine for my Sunderland games. I tried the I-Setanta too but quality was always shitty on a bigger screen...much like our team.

Only place in Calgary that I've found that I trust is Tunedub in the SW for VW and Audi needs. Not sure if he takes in other makes though? Avoid Westmount Auto in the NW at all costs. I'd be...

Re: winter clothing?

To be honest you spend half the time going from car to building so it doesn't really matter. You still see people leaving the gym in shorts in January so it's not like you're going to die or...

Re: Cultural boredom in Canada

I've had some light piss-taking over the accent (in a fun way) and I'm sure they wouldn't do it if I was a visible minority but I don't mind at all. I'm just a bit of a novelty. I take the piss out...
