Re: Let's talk about cars

Home charging solutions are simply another barrier to entry. Why the hell would I want to spend another $5k, after having just spent $40k+ (at least) on a new EV truck? People will not adopt until...

Re: Let's talk about cars

Can we talk about EVs for a moment?

I am browsing for my next truck. In the next 18 months it will come time to retire my 2015 F150 XLT. I was looking at the new all EV F150 Lightening, and I just...

Re: Moving to Atlanta with Family and Pet

My wife complains that only about 2 months of the year (Jan & Feb) are anything other than 'shorts and t-shirt weather' as far as I am concerned

Re: Civil Service

I've never pretended to be nice.

Was also not a jobsworth.

So that's your 2 main points refuted.

Re: Moving to Atlanta with Family and Pet

I do not believe anyone will fly a pet into ATL in the summer, and honestly, you wouldn't want them too either. It's routinely 34-37 (90-100) degrees here in the afternoon during the summer, which is...

Re: Civil Service

Do you consider the Police, Fire Services and the NHS as part of the Civil Service? Or are you really only interested in the people of the acronym bunch? (DWP, HMRC, DCMS etc)

Let's add Flexi-Time too. Flexi is pretty good.

Re: Civil Service

I'll give you this, I do think many people that apply and enter the Civil Service probably feel the way you do, having been fed the Government line about Civil Servants for so many years.

Easy,...

Re: Civil Service

You're assuming nefarious intent, or at least ascribing intent, where usually none exists. Of course there are some that love their job and want to retire doing it, and still more than want a...

Re: Civil Service

It's a JOB. Why do people work anywhere? I moved from a call centre job because the pay was not horrible and the hours were M-F rather than shift work, nothing more. You need to stop thinking of it...

Re: Civil Service

Well i was on 29k GBP as a Civil Servant in the UK when I left in 2013 and now make well over $100k with no additional education since I left the Civil Service.... so make of that what you will.

Re: Civil Service

Ah PCS. I was Branch Secretary and later Vice Chair of our local chapter while in the CS.

I too think the 'Job For Life' mantra has been gone for years. I watched several parts of the department...

Re: Civil Service

I don't really see you point Scamp. Should Civil Servants feel bad about earning an average salary for some reason? No you are not talking about minimum wage, but most could likely earn more in the...

Re: Moving from UK to LA - should we go for it?

If it were here in Georgia, living in a rural county commuting into Atlanta, I would say go for it. You might not be rich, but $90k is very acceptable. This just sounds like volunteering for the...

Re: 2022 US Mid-terms

As an absolute percentage share, yes he did. It was something like 49.1% in 2016 to 49.6% in 2020 if memory serves.

Re: 5-4 Roe vs. Wade leak

Abortion without any restrictions is extreme.

Yay! I can fly them from my house! It'll look so festive!

Uh huh. Say it again. Say it another. That time it might be true.

Re: 5-4 Roe vs. Wade leak

*sigh*

RED FLAG for what exactly? Not holding the extreme opinion that you do? In that case I will hold up that RED FLAG and wave it around for all it's worth... because you're right, I don't.

Re: 2022 US Mid-terms

Here in GA, where I most certainly live in rabid Trump country (I think it was 93% Trump in 2020 or something like that) it's actually pretty normal to hear someone say that Trump has made a mistake...

Re: Civil Service

I spent many years working in the Civil Service prior to my move to the US (hence the username) and honestly, I have been both sorts at different times. There are some that do not do that much, but...

Re: 5-4 Roe vs. Wade leak

History has taught us that democracy does not work in the long run. It is inevitably replaced by dictatorship, if it takes 10 years or 1,000 years. Those that fail to understand the lessons of...

Re: UK to US real estate agent

A brief look at the CA licensing requirements does not seem to require 'on the job' training.

Re: Wedding location option & Proof of Financial Support question

Be careful about the terms you use. Your wife could not 'move in' with you using a 6 month tourist visa. She would be staying with you temporarily while conducting her stated purpose of tourism.

Re: UK to US real estate agent

You're understanding is correct. There may well not be a visa available for what you want to do.

Would you being unable to work be a deal breaker for you and your (soon-to-be, if you want to go...
