Re: Exchanging UK driving licence for Portuguese

I thought the NHR is a form of residency, no? I only mention it as it signifies that I do not have permanent residency, & at this moment in time I'm not expecting to. It's for this reason, along with...

Re: Exchanging UK driving licence for Portuguese

I'm beginning to wonder if I'll ever get a local licence, especially if the UK makes a direct deal with Portugal. I guess I wouldn't be allowed to drive a Portuguese plated car with my NHR status?

Re: Exchanging UK driving licence for Portuguese

Kindly let me know how you get on. I’ve been out of country, & only returning after covid. My exchange is still pending due to the need to have continuous access to my license.

Re: Exchanging UK driving licence for Portuguese

Yes that's also my understanding. I also understand the 'brexit effect' is that UK driving licences, used in Portugal, will need to be supported by an IDP from August 2020. Now that I'm planning to...

Re: Exchanging UK driving licence for Portuguese

Thank you everybody for the insightful replies.
Is the exchange process instantaneous, if not, how long is the wait for the new licence to be issued, & is on a collection or mail basis?
Many thanks

Re: How to achieve NHR

You should aim to be in possession of a Certificate of Residency to legitimise your NHR status. I was surprised by mfeshame's post that you can apply for the NHR without one, although you will need...
