Ywhp, the Monsoon has reestablished itself up North. Expect lots of moisture moving down South from that. Hopefully not too much, which historically is the usual outcome after these events.

Makes a change, last two times we copped the smoke from Tasmania ;) Tell them twas the KIng Island fire that really covered Melbourne with smoke.

Worst smoke haze we've had this morning. Not seen it this bad, not even back in 83. Although we haven't got the ash with it this time around. Plus we can drive out of Melbourne unlike back then....

The thing about grass fires, is they travel very very fast. 60K's an hour or more at times.

There are a lot of those on the outskirts of Melbourne. Especially out West around Melton and...

Yes one of the consistent trends with the fires over the years has been fires started by firefighters mostly the volunteer ones, however, there have even been professionals charged in the past.

Yes that certainly needs looking at as that seems a highly contentious issue. I wouldn't have a clue about how many of these fires have been started by Arson. It certainly needs a forensic style...

Looks like the Monsoon at the top of the country is starting to establish itself, so with a bit of luck, that "Should" send moisture over the whole of the country over the next 3 or 4 weeks. ...

It was close to this bad in Victoria and South Australia in 1983, Ash Wednesday 16th February Melbourne was cut off from the rest of Australia by a ring of fire. The death toll was far higher @ 75...

Well, looks like the first major public protest against the handling and way the bushfires have been received will be in Melbourne this Friday. Could be 10,000's there.
