You could get a 1 year working visa with Bunac. http://www.bunac.org.uk/uk/worknewzealand/eligibility.aspx

They offer them for people from 18 to 35 years old.

I came out on my own last August. In the space of about 2 months I made the decision, got my visa, got a job and made my way here.

I didn't have any time to save etc...
