Re: Time required to complete citizenship renounciation

adrenaline - I suspect that this won't matter to you, but I believe it's possible, under the circumstances you've described, to reclaim your citizenship at a later date, should you wish to. You may...

Re: Price of gas update...

I watched the price jump from $3.87 to $4.05 while supping a pint last night in Chicago. Not in the car, but that would certainly be one way to make a jump like that easier to take.

Re: Moving to Chicago

Re: Moving to Chicago

Chicago is a great city, no doubt. But to buy in to the whole "the city that works" notion is ridiculous, as is the idea that it's a fact midwesterners don't have fences in their backyards. Sorry to...

Re: Can I claim back Sales Tax?

You seem to contradict yourself slightly here. If the law states that states cannot tax internet orders unless there is physical presence, then the only reason sales tax would be collected would be...

Re: Run Geordie Run - 3,100 mile run from LA to NY

I'll only bump this once, but on a night where the news is dominated with loutish behaviour in Britain, Mark's heroic feat (and feet!) deserve some attention. He's making his way through Manhattan as...

Re: Documents needed for Passport / Dual-nationality

Just as you've had to be residing in the US for a period of time with your wife, she needs to reside with you in the UK before she would be eligible for naturalisation there. Some exceptions apply,...

Run Geordie Run - 3,100 mile run from LA to NY

Not sure whether this is best placed here or in the Trailer Park, but anyway....

Run Geordie Run (http://www.rungeordierun.com)

This chap, Mark Allison, is about two days away from completing...

Re: B2 Visa for cycling?

Why not get in touch with Mark Allison, AKA Run Geordie Run (http://www.rungeordierun.com) - he's about three days from finishing a 3,100 mile run from California to NYC aiming to complete in 100...

Re: Expired green card and need to travel in 2 days

This is a tricky one. I suppose because your passport is proving your identity and your nationality. Your green card is of consequence only to US Immigration, save for any legislation that the...

Re: does the embassy help with cost to get home - stuck in the US with no help

The consulate will help you speak to friends and family in the UK and try and get them to assist with getting you money wired here to get you home. What they won't do is give you money and say "Here...

Re: watching man u match in nw suburbs Illinois?

Most of the "soccer" pubs will be OK to take 12 and 14 year olds to. I'm not a suburbanite (just) so don't know which area you're thinking of, but I know the likes of Gingers and the Globe in Chicago...

Re: I'm looking for some advice please

It's still (as of March 2011) considered a shortage occupation ( for family and child social work), so yeah, that wouldn't surprise me.

That's not to say that it's not a thankless, unforgiving job...

Re: I'm looking for some advice please

Apologies in advance for taking this O/T, but the irony of this of course is that with EU membership there's no way that this could be enforced.

And probably further aggravating the OP is the fact...

Re: Live in Florida? Volunteer for the British Consulate!

That is cynical. I mean it's not like this request comes at a time that even more staff have been laid off across the Embassy & Consulates in the USA.

Oh, wait....

Re: ADVICE: IMMIGRATION LAWYER DUTIES/PAYMENTS

So who actually filled out all of your forms then? You, or the lawyer?

When you say the lawyer did nothing, I think you're clearly exagerrating. I mean they mailed everything in, you've said that...

Re: Waiver of Ineligibility HELP

Re: Do I have to give up my UK citizenship

Indeed, depending on your line of work, you may meet people who are tri-nationals (a person born in Northern Ireland, entitled to both a UK and a RoI passport, who emigrates to the USA for example)....
