Agencies are a good place to start and with all things, if you want to get something done, you have to do it yourself, so pestering them on a daily basis usually helps. Contacting companies directly...

1) Immigration

2) Public sector cuts

3) Sovereign debt exposure (the EU)

it's about time the UAE Dirham strengthened. Things here are getting way too expensive and the rapid decline of the $ (and the AED) over the past few years has not been a good thing.
