Try LloydsTSB or HSBC offshore mortgage services for expats. They will probably want between 30-40% deposit on a US property depending on which state you are buying in.

All depends how much money you want to invest in yourself and how much value you put being able to live in USA.

Switching from L1A to Green Card is not an automatic. There are subtle differences....
