Re: Traveling to the UK with cremains

I take individual therapy and have the support of a lot of friends. But the loneliness is palpable, to be honest.

Thanks for the well wishes though.

Re: Traveling to the UK with cremains

Thanks for asking. It all comes and goes, you know? The mood.

We were fortunate to be able to arrange for a burial of the ashes on short notice. So now part of him rests in a grave he shares...

Re: Traveling to the UK with cremains

My son and I returned from Northern Ireland on July 14th.

I thought I should let everyone know that I had no problems whatsoever carrying my husband's ashes from the US to the UK. If for...

Oh Dorothy, I'm sorry about your son. I'm sorry you're able to help me with an answer.

*hugs to you*

Re: Traveling to the UK with cremains

Thank you, mcleodfamily. That's reassuring.

I won't be flying with an urn. I had the ashes "split" when I made the arrangements. One half are inside a clock in our living room. The half I will...

Traveling to the UK with cremains

Does anyone have experience with this?

I have checked the requisite government websites and it doesn't appear to be terribly difficult. Knowing the UK bureaucracy, I had thought I might need a...

Re: A CAUTIONARY TALE FOR THOSE WHO ARE PROUD TO BE BRITISH

Thank you, everyone. I've been wanting to tell the news on BE but writing an entire thread about it didn't seem right. This way, those who are regular and read often will see. And that seems the...

Re: A CAUTIONARY TALE FOR THOSE WHO ARE PROUD TO BE BRITISH

How fitting for that 'old' writing of mine to have been resurrected. As such, it seems as good a place as any to write down our news.

My husband and I won't be returning to the UK to live. My...

Re: EEA & U.S. citizen move from USA to UK

If you are drawing SSI in the US, those payments will stop if you move outside the US.

If you are drawing SSDI, those payments are yours and will continue if you move abroad. You do not 'move' to...

Re: A wee note about the savings route

Oh that's always possible. I kind of think the government is a little busy with other things right now, though.

Re: Over 40's Moving Back and Catching Up

Rodney, the days of colonialism are long gone. What are you going to advocate for next? That the Royal Navy rebuild the Mary Rose?

Sturgeon called for a referendum because the landscape of...

Re: Over 40's Moving Back and Catching Up

*sigh*

It saddens me to see that you don't get how this kind of talk creates divide and disenfranchises both Scotland and Northern Ireland. Not just now, but for decades.

But then, that was...

Re: Over 40's Moving Back and Catching Up

There's something else bothering me about your post, Rodney.

"Put the "Great" back in Britain again, and take back our British passport".

Go get that passport out of the drawer and look at...

Re: Over 40's Moving Back and Catching Up

In order to trade with other countries, you have to have something they want.

80 percent of the UK's economy is in the service sector. 80 percent.

Re: Limit to foreign cash being brought in to UK?

I would definitely wait till I got to the UK and exchange then. Airport exchange is notoriously inflated.

Re: Number of British citizens seeking Irish passports surges in past 12 months

I heard a story once about a group of young people from Northern Ireland who were traveling to the US in the late 80's. Things were still quite bad in Northern Ireland. They were going on an...

Re: Upcoming Referendum

This is what troubles me. Not only about the result, but about the entire discourse over the last several months.

Many, many people are now complaining about having been lied to. I would say to...
