Re: examination of external genitalia for green card?!!

Well, that's one way of looking at it. A counterpoint would be that many STDs are asymptomatic, particularly in men. To cite two common ones, Herpes and Chlamydia often do not have visually obvious...

Re: examination of external genitalia for green card?!!

This NEVER happened to me. My exam was a series of questions about drink/smoking/drug use, my and my families medical history (any history of cancer, etc) and then they took blood pressure, checked...

Reimbursement of Medicare and Social Security Payments

All,

This may be urban legend but I was informed by a colleague that when one leaves the US permanently at (or before) the expiration of their H1-b, they are entitled to a refund of their medicare...

Re: H1b wife and Green card husband

I never understand why people bother posting responses like this. This is a discussion forum (i.e questions and answers) yet in many cases when a new member posts a question, they a) get a smart-ass...

Re: H1B Renewal

I think this is called 'benching' and is not allowed under the rules of the H1-B. And since you have been 'on the bench', so to speak, for nearly two years I would think it would cause a problem...

Re: Visiting girlfriend in USA, from UK

I think Afolynskia (sp?) gave a great example of how to answer questions at the P.O.E:

Inspection Officer" "Do you know what time it is?"
You: "Yes".

The more you say unbidded, the more...

Re: Where do we start!!

Indeed, and there is the additional allocation of 20,000 for those with a Masters degree, but I didn't think this was relevant to the OP either.

Re: Where do we start!!

Yes, you are right, but since the OP is already married I thought this point was null and void.

However, should she get divorced I full retract my opening statement :)

Re: Where do we start!!

The most common route to living and working in the US is the H1-B which is a sponsorship based visa that the employing company applies for on the employees behalf, and it is usually given for...

Re: Extend Visitor Visa

Whilst he would not exactly be breaking any immigration laws, this kind of action is against the spirit of the VWP, which is intended for short, infrequent trips to the US.

I guess it would really...

Re: How long for Visa Further Processing - H1B

Absolutely do not do that. Working whilst on the VWP is strictly forbidden so you would not be able to start work for your employer anyway - even entering the US on the VWP with the intent to work...

Re: job offer, but am I out of luck because no H1B's left?

Ah OK, I thought the OP was referring to H1-Bs in general. Thanks for the clarification.

Re: job offer, but am I out of luck because no H1B's left?

I don't think there is an allocation of H1-Bs reserved for people that get their degree in the US. The quota is open for anyone with a degree from an accredited university, regardless of it's...

Re: Visa sponsors

That's positive news. EB-3 is a category of work-based Green Card and that category is in retrogression at the moment (they are currently processing applications from 2001, I believe) so the H-3...

Re: Visa sponsors

Agreed. They should have corporate attorneys or, if they have sponsored people before, an immigration lawyer under contract that they could consult with. On the surface, though, I can't think of a...

Re: Visa sponsors

It depends more on the type of job than the hiring company. If you could provide more information about the kind of role you want, I'm sure someone here could help. Under most circumstances, H1-bs...

Re: H1b visa help

Hi David,

I am in my fourth year of my H1-b, and am working for my second company out here. The 'packages' that places like H1Base offer are seductive, but ultimately you are just paying for them...

Re: Visa Help

A B-1 maybe? Since it's not an accredited educational institution in the tradtional sense I don't think an F-1 (student visa) would fly.

Re: can I enter US with new I-797 and old visa?

The expiration date on the visa that is pasted into your passport is, in essence, the last day you can apply for entry to the USA.
How long you can stay after that is governed by the expiration date...

Re: What kind of US Visa can I get?

Ah, understood. I wonder if his publisher has a US office that could sponsor him in that case. But would that even be a possibility, because presumably there would have to be a compelling reason...

I don't know much about those categories, but that might be one of the considerations, yes.

Re: What kind of US Visa can I get?

What about about a P or an O visa for him? If he is published worldwide he might meet the requirement of 'sustained international achievement' for one of those categories.

I might be way off, but...

Re: Sorry if not clear (again)

Hi Lucy,

The majority of foreign workers who get into the US originally come in on H1-b visas. To qualify for one of these you either need a degree or 12 years of work experience (USCIS counts...

Re: H1-B Visa

I think the US Embassy is booking appointments about 40 days out right now. I called at the beginning June and got a July 11th appt - but then had to cancel it, because it turned out i didn't need...
