As I understood it you had 6 years to sell an overseas property before paying CGT if you had bought here. If you are renting you may not get charged.

Interesting reactions in Oz, I know of some companies getting staff out or advising against travel to Sydney. I guess being Brits we are more aware of situations like these and dealing with them both...

Tip: if you want to Koala cuddle then try and go when it's quiet or at the end of a busy bit as they will give you a bit...
