Re: What if you don't agree ?

I was going to put some Christmas decorations on the massive elephant in my apartment - saves buying a tree.

I've spent nearly six months telling my OH how wonderful Canada is, what a...

Re: Trying to open a bank account - now !

Strange, I have a Barclaycard and have used it for loads of purchases here (i.e. TV, furniture etc) Not once have they declined it or even questioned why my card is getting so much use in Canada! So...

Re: Keeping a UK bank account

I kept our UK joint account going and used my OH's parents address - the branch know where we are, but don't seem that bothered about it! I just told them we didn't know if we would be back in a...

Re: bringing money into Canada

What happens if you have interest in a UK savings account, pay interest in the UK but don't touch the money? I assume I had to declare it as 'worldwide income' and prove I had paid some tax on the...

Re: Exchange rate

HSBC have the same policy of only moving a limited amount at a time. We simply bought the rate at Moneycorp, and arranged with HSBC to pay £5000 a day (or whatever it was), then Moneycorp sent the...

Re: How do I stop my kids singing the Pepto Bismol adverts?

That advert is great - it sells an otherwise 'embarrassing' product and makes it memorable! And I had wondered what had happened to Har Mar Superstar. :D

When they start shouting...

Re: Shipping boxes, not a house

I had a bass and a guitar - I just spliced two of my boxes together and put them in lots of bubble wrap, made sure that box went on the top of the pallet so nothing heavy would be on top of them....

Re: Shipping boxes, not a house

I used Advance Forwarding (http://www.advanceforwarding.co.uk) to ship about 10 boxes (about 1m3) which cost £260 including paperwork (brokerage/customs fee was about $120). Advance Forwarding stored...

Re: Insurance - UK No Claims Recognised?

We had letters going back about 8 years - our insurer only wanted to see the previous 3 years and gave us the insurance at a good price!

Re: Why you have to read the other forums

Heheh, you get used to it.

It's jealousy, you know - have you seen the amount of red hair colouring products for sale?

At least I haven't paid for my hair colour - mind you, if I had, I'd sue....

Re: Any real Canadians like Corner Gas?

I've watched it a few times - it's quite dry humour, inoffensive enough. You can buy 'Corner Gas' overalls in the Saskatchewan Tourist office, I think it is pretty much the province's claim to fame!...

Re: banks

We opened a HSBC account from our branch in the UK.

However, HSBC Canada is frikking useless - let's just say I haven't been able to get any money out of my account all weekend due to a simple...

Re: Getting a job in Canada - the good news...

Just goes to show you shouldn't listen to everything you're told about Canada! I was expecting it to take months, with countless rejections and "No Canadian experience, eh?" quips.

And to be...

My sister in Ireland has internet, and has signed up to Skype. Haven't tried it out yet, it would help if both of us had headphones!

We used Advance Forwarding - we only had a cubic metre (about 10 boxes). We packed it ourselves, the shipment arrived within 2-3 weeks, no problems at all.

Shipping, customs clearance, agents fee...

Re: Living in Ontario ! Don't bother ... wish I hadn't
