Re: Working in Riyadh, living in Dubai?

Several of my colleagues here in KSA have their families continuing to reside in Dubai. However, all of them were previously long-term UAE residents and workers so perhaps that makes a difference....

Re: Teacher and wife relocating

Is there any choice but to be sober in KSA? Of particular interest to me 'cos I'm headed there!

Re: Teacher and wife relocating

It would help if you clarify WHERE in the 'middle East' you're considering. Dubai (or the UAE in general) might be quite pleasant - for you, particularly, if not working (but it's probably rather...

Re: Questions re potential KSA offer (not compensation related)

I'm in a similar situation and will be in KSA in a week. Arriving on a business visa, iqama to be arranged by the company (big construction player) ASAP thereafter. I see no reason to be worried in...

Hi, could you please expand on 'SARA'? This could be very useful to me.

Re: Plot at bottom of a hill

Speaking as a construction professional, I don't believe a 'land surveyor' is normally expected, or qualified, to pronounce on rainfall, drainage, or related matters. Proceed with much caution.

Re: You Can't Come In !

This is to do with Covid and the new, supposedly mutant, strain which has been identified in the UK. Just read as far as the 3rd or 4th paragraph. It's nothing to do with Brexit, but nice try at...

Re: Moving to Milano post Brexit - help please

The very first line of your linked article reads "Any UK citizen ... can travel to Italy visa-free." - so why did you provide this lengthy link all about Schengen visas? Confused, perhaps?

As for...

Re: Ways of maximising employment in France

I'm not sure what you're not getting about the fact that having a treaty "right" to work in another country has never been, for those such as your shop assistant example, a guarantee of either a job...

Re: Ways of maximising employment in France

That's not what was originally said by LVC - he/she said "Ordinary people who need to work for a living will find it very difficult to move to the EU" which is what I challenged and what you...

Re: Ways of maximising employment in France

For those with in-demand skills, it should still remain normal to expect the necessary support/investment from a potential employer to secure the required paperwork.
For those without skills,...

Re: Ways of maximising employment in France

Ordinary people who need to work for a living will find it very difficult to move to the EU - on what exactly do you base this sweeping, doom-laden statement?

Not sure of the relevance of Erasmus...

Re: Ways of maximising employment in France

That is quite simply not true - a touch of paranoia, perhaps? Brits have been travelling to, working and living in, broadening their horizons in and finding romance in Europe for centuries. Just like...

Re: Single mum looking to move with 3 children

I agree 100%, Stumpy.

Outside the big cities - actually, just outside London - life is pretty affordable in the UK unless you really must have the newest and shiniest everything.

Re: Port Elizabeth?

It's a struggling, slowly decaying, rather small city in one of South Africa's more violent, more corrupt, more desperate provinces. Why would you even consider trading Adelaide for it?

New expat arrival to KSA

Hello everyone,
I'm about to start a new, open-ended position in Saudi Arabia, in the next couple of weeks - just waiting for the visa, which is imminent. I've never been to the country but have had...

Re: Me and My Family

This calculation is often cited as dramatic 'evidence' of something or other, because wow - more than WW2! But then when one points out that 2,89 million people die in the USA every year (240k per...

Re: Single mum looking to move with 3 children

Having lived in both Canada and the UK in recent years, there's - off the top of my head - nothing I can think of that's meaningfully cheaper in Canada than in Blighty.
