Re: Dubai Property Crash

If rents come down that much in Dubai, but go up that much in AD I would expect to see a bit of a levelling out- people will live in Green Community/Dubai Marina/JLT and just commute to work in AD. ...

Re: G'bye Dubai - Whats your exit strategy??

My exit strategy is the same as it has always been. Stay until something better comes along, then leave. Meanwhile, try to save as much money as possible. The way the UK (and world) economy is at...

Re: Cars in UAE- not that cheap

The best way to look at it is to convert the price into working days. How many days would I have to work to buy the same car (or whatever) here compared to the UK, or wherever home is, based on my...

Re: UK Property Market - Good time to buy?

It's the difference between buying somewhere for investment and buying somewhere to live in. My parents bought a house about 25 years ago and paid the asking price without haggling. Everybody said...

Re: UK Property Market - Good time to buy?

Rents have come down a lot and will continue to do so, but rental yields are holding up because the property values have come down as well. Now is still a reasonable time to buy a rental property if...

Re: UK Property Market - Good time to buy?

There was an article about this in last Sunday's Sunday Times- they suggested that prices may fall further in the Summer but there may also be less choice then as sellers delay putting properties on...

Re: Dhs1000 Traffic Fine!!

Last year my car apparently left the car park, drove to Sharjah, collected a speeding fine and came back to park itself while I was out of the country. With the keys. I know cars are getting clever...

Re: Dubai Rental Law

I'd guess at a 5% cap- and the sooner the market stabilises so we don't have to go through this performance every year the better. (I say that as a landlord by the way.)

The landlord can't add on...

Re: Dubai Rental Law

I thought it was no increase in the second year and then 5% every year after that. Which I think is what Blue Cat was saying.

Re: Dubai Rental Law

The only "2 year law" I know about is the one that says the landlord can't put the rent up for the second year. Doesn't mean you can't have a one year contract which is renewable. The landlord is...

Re: Dubai: 2 bed to share anyone?

That's what I mean- maid, child and flat owner all in one bedroom- and it isn't even the biggest one. And you are right, 84,000Dhs a year for that is a bit steep.

Re: Dubai: 2 bed to share anyone?

Somehow I don't think that is quite what he has in mind....

Isn't a 2 bed apartment with a child and a maid a little crowded? Especially since it looks like you are all living in one bedroom?

Re: getting your car checked.

Depending on what you need the FastTrack places at the Emarat Petrol stations are pretty good for straightforward stuff. Owned by Al Futtaim so they use genuine parts but are cheaper than the Al...

Re: How to negotiate rent in Dubai

Non occupied properties are much easier to sell. That is because it is almost impossible to get the tenants out if they don't want to go. Selling the property is not an acceptable reason for not...

Re: How to negotiate rent in Dubai

I don't think it matters which company the agents work for, you need to find an individual you think you can do business with and ask him/her to find you a place. I've never had to rent (thank God!)...

Re: Getting a UK Mortgage from Dubai?

HSBC Offshore on Beach Road will fix you up with a UK mortgage based on your Dubai income. I've mortgaged through them and it was all fairly painless. Other than that I think Meow knows of some...
