Re: Why did I not love this country before???????

Very interesting how surprised at yourself you were—and will you, Rorypens, like Jensmate and so many others, come back for good, do you think?

Jensmate, your posts are wonderful. Thank you for...

Re: Pre setteld status- booking an appointment

Congrats!!! After helping so many people, so kindly and patiently over and over again, it's only right and just that it has all gone smoothly for you. Of course, we know the application will have...

Re: Should I move back? My nagging doubt

Very interesting question and discussion. No-one has said much about something the OP repeats: "feeling like an outsider." Always being an outsider.

In my own experience, I have been surprised by...

Re: Thinking of moving back to the UK...but still not super sure...

Going back to the OP, I was very interested to see it was she, the American partner, who missed some of the things in UK that so many expat Brits—like me— also missed so much in USA: the history, the...

Re: Car v public transport.

Agreed, some people do need a car, and, Spouse of Scouse, your list gives many valid reasons for having one. However we've been living without one in the UK for a while now...we can walk to both the...

Re: Help!! ILR application-28 days? and travel while pending?

Thanks! Indeed, and thank you for confirming this about the date. If only I hadn't had to google around to find out why!

The letter should explain this, as the date could cause many people...

Re: Help!! ILR application-28 days? and travel while pending?

Thank you so much, BiP!

I feared this might be your advice; and if ‘ in progress’ is considered as starting when you file the application, I totally understand that it does make sense not to take...

Re: Help!! ILR application-28 days? and travel while pending?

28 day rule-I guess it’s moot as we have made the application and got an appointment.

But still stressed about the second question I asked in starting the thread—I know it was too wordy, my...

Re: Sopra Storia services - Please help!

Hooray! So glad for you! And great to know it was pretty speedy!
Will you kindly let us know when the biometric residence permit arrives in the post?

I wonder if we really need to send these...

I am hoping that trusty ever-helpful BritinParis will chime in with the customary expertise, or someone else who knows...

The ILR application guidance is very unclear on the .gov website. It...

Re: People I miss on forum

I think fulwood might be thinking of people on the thread called Over 40s Moving Back and Catching up, which is on the Rovers Return page. All the people mentioned used to post there, as did I (and I...

Re: Your social, cultural and family ties

Thank you so much. So much clearer now. It's confusing until one understands why. I feel this question will reappear on the forums!

Thanks so much, BritinParis. You are so helpful, these forums are so indebted to you for informative and precise responses!

So, in answering the questions about social ties etc, just a shortish...

Re: TOR - Attachment Limits?

Yes, TOR is a nightmare. I think the limit still applies. I think you can send your info in several emails as the limit is per email. So you say email 1, email 2, etc.

Re: Your social, cultural and family ties

Farah, I too have been wondering about these puzzling questions. Surely they don't want the names of everyone one has known back in the original country?! Luckily, there is a character limit....

Re: Over 40's Moving Back and Catching Up

A trip back—apart from personal visit, that's always useful to help work out how you think/feel. And post-retirement going southwards and rv-ing in the winters sounds like a good plan!

Re: Over 40's Moving Back and Catching Up

Great to hear this, christmasoompa.
As Christmasoompa says, pick your area wisely. I agree, it will vary from area to area...and even within areas. Where I am, some parts of NHS care I've...

Hi Shelley, yes, your concerns about overwhelmed police and over whelmed NHS are legitimate, I totally understand.

I'm back in Gloucestershire, where I lived as a teenager and where many family...

Re: Over 40's Moving Back and Catching Up

Glad you have asked, Gabby! Thus bumping it up and reminding people it is here. It used to be so active, and such a valuable source of support for those a bit later in life who longed to go back to...

Re: 22 Years in Canada, still miserable

22 Years, you say this about your husband:
