Re: How to Access UK TV

Yes, we are lucky here. I recently subscribed to Netflix and we have that going through our wireless PS3 and not a single buffering problem in any movie. I remember trying to download MP3's back in...

Re: I got asked.....

I have an Aussie accent and I am always asked if I'm Brit. (well technically yes I am, but I was brought up in Australia almost all my life)

I've been asked:
Do you celebrate 4th July?
Do you...

Re: How to Access UK TV

I have a pretty good connection (Internet about $65) per mth. Phone and cable throws the bill up to almost $200 (If I had my way we'd kill the cable and also just use my cell phone)

Here was my...

Re: How to Access UK TV

Certainly something to be aware of and a valid point. I have an unlimited plan here with Cox (I get speeds often in excess of 20Mbps on their Premier Plan) but I did double check. Excellent advice...

Re: US pay as you go cell? Question!

I've been using Net10 for years. 10c per minute call within the US and 5c text anywhere in the world. (I text my best friend in Australia every day, very inexpensive)

Did you want to call Canada...

Re: Linux any comments please!

Linux was playing with my head... fun for a day or two.

I think my Linksys Wireless-G USB Adapter WUSB54G Network adapter isn't supported by W7 (no drivers I think) and I didn't want to go out...

Re: Favourite free applications

I use Mozilla Thunderbird to get all my various Yahoo mail. I've collected quite a few email addresses over the years (and dumped a few too after they became spam magnets) and with Thunderbird I can...

Re: Price of food in Brit Stores

Don't think I've tried the Folger's instant. I drink their brewed coffee (red tub) in the mornings.

Had some lovely instant coffees in Australia. Dozens of instant coffee choices there.

Re: Price of food in Brit Stores

I tried Taster's Choice. If you're looking for a caffeine fix it will work, but it's......unsatisfying and a bit rough and it's no Gold Blend. I had a lady at work ask me for some coffee one day and...

Re: When to buy a house? Debating state of the US property market V £/$ exchange rate

Agreed. Zillow is notoriously unreliable. In our Refi/sales/HELOC dept here at "fill-in-the-blank major US bank" we use internal programs and an external company or two to arrive at a property value...

Re: Linux any comments please!

I tried all the different flavours of Linux, but after spending days trying to see what the advantage was (and after reading so much about it, I was very excited to finally see it in action), I just...

Re: My visit to the UK (got back today)

Ah, you're after my own heart. As someone Brit born, who lived in Australia for over 42 years and now been living in the hot and sunny Southwest of the USA for ten years, you are absolutely right. I...

Re: Price of food in Brit Stores

I will make some scones this week and open the jar (carefully). If all goes well, I will post my results. If not, I will try to email from hospital.

Stand back. We're goin' in...

Re: Price of food in Brit Stores

I still have a small jar of Devon Clotted Cream in the fridge......expired Apr 2007. Time to chuck it perhaps? I've been waiting for the lid to expand and blow out (kinda like a science experiment)

Re: Price of food in Brit Stores

It's definitely an acquired taste. I think you have to start eating it before you are 2 years old and then it latches on to your DNA.

It's actually quite nice on those plain rice cakes. But...

Re: new Arizona illegal immigration enforcement law

FWIW I was shopping in the hair products section of Wal Mart yesterday and for the very first time in ten years here, I saw someone other than a police officer or security guard carrying a weapon. ...

Yeah, he is. Maybe I expected to find "the jolly innkeeper" kind of fellow when I went. So I guess you could blame my own expectations. The other Brit food stores I'd frequent in Las Vegas and Long...

Re: Price of food in Brit Stores

I weaned myself off my usual foods (although there is no exact substitute for any of them) I couldn't hack paying $50 for just a few items I craved.

The Brit shop I would frequent in Las Vegas...
