Re: If you had to name one.. what's the worst thing about living on Vancouver Island?

I sit corrected. Was too quick to assure that we had good hockey in both towns plus the Canucks.

Re: Air Canada - carry on luggage.

I disagree. I find the designer labels cheaper here than in the UK. I'm back there again in May so I'll have another look. I guess here on the west coast we don't buy for function, as you put...

Re: Air Canada - carry on luggage.

It's no big deal checking a bag, just takes a few minutes longer, and you have to wait in line at customs anyway. They have really clamped down on the size of carry-ons in the past year or so. ...

Re: Yorkshire puddings

I use the packet mix. I've lived here over 30 years and have never been able to make decent yorkshires that rise. Mine were hockey pucks, as noted above. But now I read it's all about the eggs,...

Re: filing taxes for the first time?

For your first return you will not be eligible to netfile. However, I would recommend either using a tax service or software programme (they are very easy to use) such as UFile (my favourite) or...

Re: Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows??

Exactly. And which is why I suggested the OP send me a private message if more info is required. It seems quite a few really helpful regulars have disappeared lately whereas much information and...

Re: How many children in Canada actually play ice hockey?

Yet again you don't know your subject. No one would teach a 13 year old to hit someone over the head with a piece of wood. If that happened, said kid would be thrown out of the game, and if a coach...

Re: What's wrong with Canada?

This particular man was not resisting arrest. It has been shown that he was actually following direction when being told to go over to the counter.

Re: What's wrong with Canada?

When did you? That kind of beligerence is uncalled for, and unsettling given that you are an RCMP officer. They used to be relied on to defuse situations, not the opposite.

The RCMP officers are...

Re: What's wrong with Canada?

Absolutely no way was the use of the taser appropriate. (Especially 5 TIMES) Nor was the behaviour of the officers. Please go back and refer to the official statements from the RCMP before the...

Re: woe and confusion!

Your parents are lashing out at you because they are scared. My mother-in-law reacted the same way when we told her of our plans, blamed me totally, but eventually came around and visited us here in...

Re: Do you have an improved quality of life?

Mrs M - that is a helluva posting. It's all about attitude and willingness to embrace a different way of life and make the very best you can of it.

Re: Our realtor experience

As someone who worked with realtors for many years, I have to say this is pretty much the norm. And there's a lot of work that goes into it behind the scenes as well. No, they are not all like...

Re: PRIVATE HEALTH CARE IS ILLEGAL IN CANADA

No absolutely not. Anyone with kids needs to have a dental plan if at all possible. Mind you, neither of my kids ever needed orthodontics, just staightforward dentistry.

My last clean, deep...

Re: PRIVATE HEALTH CARE IS ILLEGAL IN CANADA

Depending on what you have done. I no longer have dental insurance, and dental bills for both of us last year came to way less than that. Fillings included.

Re: Expats - what surprised you about Canada?

I think you need to identify what part of Canada you live in given the negative generalizations. Though from your comment about public transit it must be here in the lower mainland of BC! The rest...
