Re: Election's 'a comin'

That the average Canadian had no problem with the government's refusal to accept another election back in June indicates the decline of this so-called "nation". One member of parliament, Belinda...

Re: American Football vs Rugby

Who said it was spontaneous? If it were spontaneous it would be as boring as rugby ****ing union! As I said earlier it is the tactical aspects of American football that make it interesting (though I...

Re: American Football vs Rugby

For the record it was union not league that I played in school.

I don't know if Rugby League is rougher based on the few occasions I've watched it. But I do know League supporters will spend all...

Re: Exchange Rate, what did you get??

When the £ dropped from around $2.50 to $2.25 I transferred $ to £ thinking I was doing well. Last I checked it's down to $2.09  Oh well...at least the British interest rates are higher.

Re: Election's 'a comin'

A lot of people in the Toronto area believe all that media stuff about the Conservative Party being the Canadian Ayatollahs. (Though they don't seem to mind religious fanatics from the Asian...

Re: George Best Close to Death

I only saw him play once and that was against Holland in early 1978 - I think it was a WC qualifying match. I was just a youngster and don't remember much other than the fans shouting insults at him...

Re: George Best Close to Death

Good blog entry!

Re: Orangeville area

Fair enough. But when I came here it was common for local Brits and Irish to express astonishment at how much driving Canadians were willing to do on a daily basis. (The people I'm thinking of were...

Re: George Best Close to Death

Alcoholism has a genetic component. Best's mother was an alcoholic too - I think it contributed to her death.

Speaking of my fellow Ulstermen who've made it big then lost it all due to drink Alex...

Re: Earth to America

It's going to take more than upper class poseurs like Bill Maher and Tom Hanks to convince those of us who base our views on reason, rather than fashionable prejudice, that global warming is due to...

Re: American Football vs Rugby

American football is also better than rugby for one other reason close to the heart of most Brits: Betting! In addition to all the usual things you can bet on such as winner, score spread etc you've...

Re: American Football vs Rugby

A few times I've heard the older commentators - eg. John Madden - saying the tackling standards are far worse than they used to be. In the few clips I've seen from the olden days (1950s and 60s) the...

Re: Orangeville area

House prices in Orangeville are low compared to the UK (and bigger :) ) and Toronto, but they are going up fast. The population of Orangeville is increasing each year so property prices will no doubt...

Re: American Football vs Rugby

I played rugby at school and didn't think it was very rough. You don't get hit head-on (usually!) as they do in American football and you tackle instead of hitting - btw the standard of tackling in...
