Re: Help! Dilemma - US Drivers License

It seems we live in the only state with a proper driving test. I had to reverse around a corner, merge into traffic on the freeway, parallel park, hill start, go round a few roundabouts, three-point...

Re: Any recent visa outcomes?

We have many people going through visa applications here, and many have recently (and not so recently) been through it. I had my IR-1 interview less than 2 years ago so that’s pretty recent. But for...

Re: Any recent visa outcomes?

What recent changes in immigration law? The only changes I have seen recently is the suspension of issuing visas to people from certain countries (and that’s not even a change in law - it’s a...

Re: My Fiancè in the USA has a criminal record

Goodness my huge apologies for not being up-to-date with recent changes on U.K. immigration. It was previously 30 months. Not that this was even the OP’s question.... and there were other...

Re: My Fiancè in the USA has a criminal record

He was sentenced to 5 but served three. I didn’t say he was sentenced to 3. We applied and he was denied and we were told to not even bother applying ever again unless the law changes. Of course if...

Re: My Fiancè in the USA has a criminal record

Without knowing which visa you applied for it’s hard to say but for VAF2 (dependent visa) question 7.6 asks if you have ever been convicted of a crime anywhere in the world.

Re: My Fiancè in the USA has a criminal record

My husband has a felony (theft,3 years served in state prison in California in the 1990s). I have successfully immigrated here. I was questioned about it during my interview at the London embassy...

Re: Renting - basic costs etc

Depends on the location and the landlord. We rent but waste collection is not included in what we pay the landlord. We get a separate bill for it.

Re: i-130 forms for parents status

If she mailed an actual check she can ask the bank for a copy of the cancelled check because it will have the receipt number on it.

But first I would give it a few weeks to receive the receipt...

Re: USA ESTA Question

He won’t have accumulated enough presence for taxation if he’s going next month (November) and he won’t be earning during that time so he will have no US income - he said he will be on holiday.

I...

Re: Advice needed.

Air BnB or VRBO would get a better choice if you want somewhere to spend your holidays that is more like a home than a hotel. It’s an awful lot to spend for just 10
weeks a year. All that...

Re: Colorado

We had our first snow of the season here in the north Cascades last night. We are 70 miles from Canada so I imagine it’s not too different there weather-wise and their entry requirements are a little...

Re: USA return to U.K. holiday, visas and insurance?

Not sure why you are so nervous about sending “original vital docs” in the mail. You only ever have official copies. True originals never leave the archive of the government or authority in question....

Re: Immigration to Alaska: complete noob

But 10 years of research! Into what, I don’t know because it didn’t include “an I even eligible for a visa for the USA?”. Surely that should be day 1 of your research.

I have in-laws that work in...

Re: K1 visa - working as a self-employed contractor for a UK company

Unauthorized work by spouses of USCs is still “forgiven”. Doesn’t mean the same as “you can come here and work illegally”. Especially as there is an alternative way into the country for spouses that...

Re: K1 visa - working as a self-employed contractor for a UK company

A CR-1 visa would have eliminated all this. It pays to fully research the options before throwing money at the government for filing fees.

Re: Criminal Record attempting to visit/work/live in USA

Actually, his point is correct. If we are to view the sentence as two separate questions (have you ever been arrested? Have you ever been convicted...?) then the second question is redundant as...

Re: 12 months or more

Stay for 12 months as what? A tourist? There isn’t one. Assuming you are eligible for the VWP, 90 days is more than enough. Although there is no written rule saying you can’t come straight back...

Re: Planning to get married next year

Sounds like the CR-1 is the best fit so that you can carry on working. But, to be clear, this is an immigrant visa to allow you move permanently to the USA. You will then be a US resident. You can...

Re: Planning to get married next year

Your crew visa won't be cancelled because you got married. Your crew visa will only be cancelled when you either leave your job or apply for and receive an immigrant visa (if that what you are...
