Re: Your observations when visiting UK from Canada !

With me the first thing is the green. Seen from the air, London's very green. But then, I haven't been there since the summer, not since before The Dustbowl.

Re: Your observations when visiting UK from Canada !

Really? Isn't it the water meter penetration rate the second thing one notices on visiting the UK? Right after being knifed by feral youths who'd be on strike if they'd troubled to take a job in the...

Re: Your observations when visiting UK from Canada !

I had neither in the country. We have a meter now but it's not reducing any tendency to drought, there's a gap in the logic that says they do.

I can't say that parched earth is something I...

Re: Your observations when visiting UK from Canada !

I heard that AIDS spread around Brighton much more quickly than it did Omaha, that's why my eyesight hasn't yet failed me here.

Re: Your observations when visiting UK from Canada !

If you actually go back and read the thread, population density came up as part of a discussion about overcrowding.

So population density alone is not the issue - the real issue is actually...

Re: Your observations when visiting UK from Canada !

The first problem with that, as I suspect you well know, is that the cost of any litigation is prohibitive. It cost $100,000 in fees to get this far and, at that time, my former spouse was resident...

Re: Your observations when visiting UK from Canada !

I didn't say I liked the UK better, that's your thought not mine. However, were I outside Canada I would not be able to sustain my alimony payments so, yes, in a manner of speaking, I'm a prisoner.

Re: Your observations when visiting UK from Canada !

Guelph.

Yes, Guelph.

Because I can walk to work in Guelph. It's too far to walk from the UK.

Re: Your observations when visiting UK from Canada !

Well, since you're putting thoughts in the heads of people here, why don't you name them and then ask them specifically if they're living ironically?

Re: Your observations when visiting UK from Canada !

How is it ironic that people live in locations they might not choose? Is, for example, the entire population of the West Bank living ironically? How about the people in Fort McMurray; I don't suppose...

I can't claim any expertise, I've largely ignored dentists. Doctors too.

Re: Your observations when visiting UK from Canada !

Someone, presumably your wife's employer's insurer, paid handsomely for your flashier fangs.

Yes, there's still such a thing as a NHS dentist.

Re: Your observations when visiting UK from Canada !

A couple of acres makes no sense to me. That's just a lot of grass to cut. If you can't get enough land to stick horses on you might as well live somewhere convenient.

Re: Your observations when visiting UK from Canada !

No idea. Most people I knew have left, going back to their countries of origin or on to new ones. Those who remain typically spend "six months less a day" per year outside the country. I don't think...

I think that's fair in many respects. Whether or not it's a blessing is another matter.

Re: Your observations when visiting UK from Canada !

Commuting in the GTA I averaged 11mph, the speed at which President Kennedy was travelling when shot. I often thought that would be a kinder fate than life on the 400 series highways.

This puzzles...

Re: Your observations when visiting UK from Canada !

Quite right. The problem being that those parts of Ontario are inconveniently far from the people, them living in one big heap, like ants, so while that idea is viable it's like someone in London...
