Re: On-line applications for Titres de Séjour

I didn't even think about fees for the TdS. They certainly didn't ask for any as part of the online application. Does anyone know if there are any costs?

Re: On-line applications for Titres de Séjour

Yes, the first address box is for the number and the second for the road. The English version didn't make sense so I went back to the French one. Use capitals throughout and it should all work. I now...

Re: On-line applications for Titres de Séjour

And again, be warned. It says your given names only have to start with a capital letter, but it rejected them until I put them in all capitals.

Re: On-line applications for Titres de Séjour

Damn, just spotted I should have been using capital letters for much of the info. Be warned anyone who hasn't applied yet and is as unobservant as me.

Re: On-line applications for Titres de Séjour

It's still saying my surname and given names are invalid as is London. Also it showed a gateway error when moving to one of the pages then sorted itself and worked when I tried again. I assume it's...

Re: On-line applications for Titres de Séjour

I'm running into trouble on the website, maybe it's just inundated, but it's saying my name is invalid. First just my surname and 'London' as the issuing authority for my passport so I changed it to...

Re: Opening a French bank account

Just to be clear, Britline ask for exactly the same documents and proofs that any bank asks for. The ease for us was that we could use our UK documents to open the account before we came to France....

Re: Opening a French bank account

I started asking questions on this forum long before my wife and I moved to France and read every thread in case there was something in there I could use (I still do). From all the threads I read on...

Re: Opening a French bank account

I just reread your post and suspect that my advice is useless if you have already moved to France and cut your ties with wherever you lived before. Others here will have more relevant input and...

Re: Opening a French bank account

There are various options and opinions as far as French banks are concerned on here. For our part we opened a Britline account, an English speaking subsidiary of Credit Agricole, which allows you to...

Re: French values

I've read without contributing, but agree that this is turning into TIO material.

Re: Perpignan - good place to live?

I guess whether or not the heat in the south of France is bearable is completely subjective. We also lived in Hong Kong and travelled extensively through Asia, including spending about 9 months on...

Re: Driving licence exchange again.

Hmmm. Driving in the UK with an expired, clean UK licence and an expired attestation with 3 points not recorded on it. What could possibly go wrong? In fact, I had to drive the car home and fly back...

Re: Driving licence exchange again.

The whole UK address question is interesting. As far as I can work out you can use your UK driving licence, with an old UK address, in the EU, but you can't renew it without a UK address. This means...

Re: Driving licence exchange again.

Not yet, When I emailed them about six weeks ago pointing out my attestation was going to run out on 3rd September I was sent a link to the EU directive saying that everyone with a recently expired...

Re: British bank accounts for expats

Thanks Helen1964 and EuroTrash. I already use the Britline International Transfer company to send sterling to my Britline account by simply using my Nationwide debit card and essentially 'paying' the...

Re: British bank accounts for expats

Further to my supposedly good news from the Nationwide, which I put in an earlier comment, I pushed them for a bit more clarification and got this:'The good news is that we are a UK based Building...

Re: British bank accounts for expats

I just received this from Nationwide:Thank you for your message. This will not effect us, as we are a Building Society rather than a Bank this does not effect us. It will be business as usual.

Re: British bank accounts for expats

Probably an overly simplistic guess, but I assume that any banks that can be bothered to jump through the regulation hoops will be the ones with enough existing EU resident customers to make it worth...

Re: British bank accounts for expats

As I mentioned earlier, Britline offer a sterling account to its existing customers, but charge over 20 euro to receive or send sterling to another bank. In my case that would cost me around 240 euro...

Re: British bank accounts for expats

An interesting point. I looked it up and found this:

As an EU member state, the British government took little advantage of flexibilities: in 2018, the UK spent 0.38% of GDP on state aid, compared...

Re: British bank accounts for expats

I wrote to Nationwide on 15th September through my account and didn't notice that they had replied. They said they were unaware of the situation. That's a bit worrying in itself.

Re: Residency & Transition period

This may be the least of your problems judging by all the other comments, but in my case I found Britline the easiest French bank account to get. You can do it from UK before you come to France using...
