Re: Americanisms

Well said.

Is that really an Americanism, though? I thought it was just retarded 'internet slang' used by semi-literate and barely sentient 'teens' on these interwebs here?

Whenever I hear or...

Re: a Saudi Man Like to Get to Know you in Riyadh...

Because the internet is full of weirdos? :)

Of course, the loners or the psychos are probably only a tiny minority, but you can't blame people for being wary.

Plus, most people prefer to...

Re: What happens to them?

I'm pretty sure police car parks for confiscated ones only - they always have a shortage of space at all their car parks. Yes, it IS a lot of cars but I guess there are many confiscations for traffic...

Re: Life in Sharjah?

I don't know Sarjah well, but from quite a few visits and based on what I've heard from people who live there:

Horrendous traffic jams at most hours, narrow streets, difficult to get around, very...

Re: Which one would you recommend?

I think you're spot on - mine's a bigger tank because its a 5 door / 7 seater model, sorry I think I misunderstood... yours is different?

Also, mine's an older model but that probably won't...

Re: Which one would you recommend?

I have the same engine and car (2004 model), and generally get 500 kms / tank.

On long routes only, at 100-120 km/hr speeds, can even get more than 520 km.

Also, a full tank costs AED...

Re: Baby abadoned on Gulf Air flight from Qatar to Philippines.

Very good point.

The mind shudders at just imagining it!! :(

Shocking stuff.

Also, incredible that the airline didn't notice she was pregnant / due, the cabin crew didn't hear someone...

Re: DUBAI the undefined future !

I'm in the same boat. However, the only issue over being here for a number of years is that one simply 'loses' those years from the career - if I go back to the City now, my Dubai experience would be...

Re: Are there any half-decent banks in the UAE???

I use both ADIB and ADCB at the moment - fairly routine, simple stuff admittedly, but no complaints whatsoever.

HSBC, whom I have used a fair bit but no longer patronise, are a complete shower.

Re: Taxi Driver In Bahrain Fighting My Clients !

Agreed.

Why be such a cheapskate? Surely better just to pay what they are asking and avoid making a scene? An extra $10 or $20 is hardly going to bankrupt your business, is it?

Re: Metro Station opening update?

Very true. Just another one in a long series of delays on this project. Both time-wise and money-wise, this has been significantly over-budget; but then that's true for all such public sector...

Re: Metro Station opening update?

Well said. The issue is that they are using the property sector slowdown as an excuse to save money (or rather, not spend money they don't have) by not opening the remaining Red Line stations.
